A great start to the year in the Silesian Academic Championships!
Students of the Silesian University of Technology made a great start to the competition in the next edition of the Silesian Academic Championships. Behind us are already competitions in alpine skiing, snowboarding, sport climbing and darts. Our students returned from each event with medals!
Let us remind you that the Silesian University of Technology is the winner of the general classification (for the tenth time in a row!) and the medal classification of the Silesian Academic Championships in the 2022/2023 season, as well as the most successful university in the 50-year history of the Silesian Academic Championships.
This year's competition was first started by athletes specializing in sport climbing. Two of the three editions of the competition have already been held.
In the first edition of sport climbing, the bouldering competition took place. At Skarpa in Bytom, the students of the Silesian University of Technology took second place in the team classification, and the men took first place. Individually, our representatives won three medals there: gold for Jan Perdyła, and bronze for Małgorzata Włodarczyk and Szymon Nowakowski.
The second edition was a difficulty competition, and the competition was held in Bielsko-Biała. There, in the women's team competition, the representatives of the Silesian University of Technology again took second place (they also take this place in the general classification of the Silesian Academic Championships), and the men took first place again and are the ones who lead in the general classification.
Individually, Małgorzata Włodarczyk won silver and Krystian Golus took bronze.
The athletes' trainer is Jolanta Krzyszkowska from the Sports Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.
The last edition of sport climbing in the timed competition will be held on March 6 in Bytom.
The winter weather was favourable for our athletes competing in alpine skiing and snowboarding, in which two editions of the competition have already been held on the Siglany slope in Wisła.
- Summing up the Silesian Academic Championships in Alpine Skiing this season, the Silesian University of Technology took first place in the men's classification, becoming the Champions of Silesia, while the women took third place in the general classification - says dr Krzysztof Szydło, coach and deputy director for teaching at the Sports Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.
Additionally, Mikołaj Malich won the individual bronze medal in the giant slalom competition.
Snowboarders, coached by Arkadiusz Sypień from the Sports Centre of the Silesian University of Technology, also returned with medals from the competition on the slope.
In the general classification, the men's team of the Silesian University of Technology took second place, and the women's team of our University took the lowest place.
Individual bronze medals were won by Anna Haratyk and Damian Krawczyk.

The best athletes competing in these disciplines will also take part in the Academic Polish Championships. The composition of the Silesian University of Technology team will be announced later.
The first of two editions of the Silesian Academic Championships in darts, whose popularity has been growing in our country in recent years, is behind us.
- Our representatives did great. Weronika Szafron and Mikołaj Wójcik won, and Stanisław Pogorzelski took second place. Artur Wyciślok also scored points for the team, taking fourth place. Thus, our team (in this discipline, the results of women and men are added up) definitely won and is leading in the team classification - summed up coach Arkadiusz Sypień.
