A graduate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering with an award in the GDDKiA (General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways) competition

Sofiia Holovko - this year's graduate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering - won the first place in the second edition of the national competition "Innovations in road engineering", organized by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA).

The winner graduated from the field of Civil Engineering with a Road specialization. Promoter of the awarded master's thesis entitled "The impact of the use of furniture industry waste and plastic waste as mastic stabilizers on the properties of the SMA mix" was Dr Eng. Bartłomiej Grzesik from the Department of Geotechnics and Roads, Faculty of Civil Engineering.

- For me, this award is important because it shows that I am going in the right direction and motivates me to keep going. In the future, I plan to work on communication solutions that will help minimize the negative impact of humans on the environment, including the development of the subject taken up in my master's thesis - said the laureate Sofiia Holovko, who won in the category: Road materials and technologies.

The awards ceremony took place on December 16th at the headquarters of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways.

- This is the second success of our graduates in this competition - in the first edition, the diploma thesis of Eng. Adriana Pluty, representing the same category, also written under the supervision of Dr Eng. Bartłomiej Grzesik, won the 3rd place - the promoter of the works announced.

The competition "Innovations in road construction", organized by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA), was addressed to students or graduates of first- and second-degree studies, full-time or part-time, whose diploma theses were defended in the period from 1st January 2021 to 13th September 2022. The aim of the competition was to select the best diploma theses, the results of which can be used in road engineering. It also promotes the idea of entrepreneurship and innovation among the academic community.

The competition included diploma theses in the following categories: 

  • road materials and technologies, 
  • traffic engineering, intelligent traffic management systems and road safety solutions, 
  • optimal engineering structures.
