A graduate of the Faculty of Architecture awarded for the best engineering work

During the “Forum on the Future of the City of Science,” which took place on the 9th of May in Katowice, the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis awards were presented for the best diploma theses created in the European City of Science 2024. Among the winners were graduates of the Silesian University of Technology.

Awards of the Upper Silesian-Zagłębie Metropolis for the best diploma theses devoted to metropolitan issues presented. Among the topics addressed in their work, the graduates discussed, among others, water and architectural installations based on the assumptions of sustainable economy, but also passenger information systems, accessibility of public transport, blue-green infrastructure, revitalization of settlements and heat islands. 

Among the winners, in the category of engineering works there was a graduate of engineering studies at the Faculty of Architecture – Eng. Krzysztof Szyjka. A graduate of the first-degree studies, currently a student of the second-degree studies at the same faculty, wrote a paper entitled “CATCH THE RAIN” – the urban-architectural concept of a residential complex with blue-green infrastructure at the Old Szobiszowicki Manor in Gliwice.

- “I am grateful to the Department of Urban and Spatial Planning because it was the knowledge gained during the classes that paid off in this work. Our lecturers share their experience in such a way that we can draw from it many valuable tips for ourselves” – said engineer Krzysztof Szyjka.

The winner received a voucher worth PLN 2,000.
