7th Dual Education Conference - eDUAL

Cooperation of the Silesian University of Technology with the socio-economic environment, improvement of education programs in dual studies, the role of LivingLab and IdeaLab in dual education - these are the topics discussed as part of the Dual Education - eDUAL conference held at the Silesian University of Technology. This is the seventh edition of this event.

The conference is attended by the University authorities, scientists, business representatives, students, secondary school pupils and teachers. The main topic of the meeting is dual education and the cooperation of the Silesian University of Technology with the socio-economic environment.

Dual studies are a form of education in which students take classes in lecture halls and at the same time have internships in companies. – Dual education is a benefit for both the University, students and business. As for students, they are very well prepared for the future labour market, their competences are close to the needs of future employers. When it comes to business, having a creative staff that responds to the challenges of the present is an advantage. For the University, it is primarily an opportunity to test various modern methods of developing competences, in particular competences of the future and establishing cooperation with the socio-economic environment - said the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk.

As part of dual education, the Silesian University of Technology has so far cooperated with over a hundred companies.

– When it comes to dual studies, they would not be possible without the socio-economic environment. At the moment, with such rapid technological changes, changes in management, communication, practically in all spheres of life, every university that educates for the needs of future generations and the needs of the economy must observe and cooperate with business. This is of particular importance in the case of a technical university - said the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, dr hab. Eng. Anna Timofiejczuk, prof. of the Silesian University of Technology.

The president of the Katowice Special Economic Zone, which has been cooperating with the Silesian University of Technology in creating dual majors from the very beginning, pointed out the benefits for business.

– The first dual studies in Poland were established at the Silesian University of Technology. The university created it together with the Katowice Special Economic Zone. Today it is already the standard. Dual studies are the best tool for young people to combine learning with work. I am glad that we can, together with the Silesian University of Technology, offer our investors such an opportunity to attract young people to work. By investing in young people, the employer will have a very good, qualified and loyal employee - said dr Janusz Michałek, President of the KSEZ.

Dual studies were chosen by Kacper Gromadzki, who studies mechanics and machine construction.

– Dual studies are an opportunity for students to develop. What we learn at the University, we can then use in practical terms at work and thus gain professional experience - emphasizes the student.

At the Silesian University of Technology, dual studies are conducted in the field of mechanics and machine construction as well as railway transport.
