60 years of the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science
This year, the Faculty of Automation, Electronics and Computer Science is celebrating 60 years of its activity. A celebration of this anniversary will take place on 6 June 2024 in Hall A of the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.
The Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology was established on February 15, 1964 as the first independent Faculty of Automatic Control in Poland. The first dean of the Faculty was prof. Tadeusz Zagajewski. In 1971, due to the rapid development of computer science, the Faculty's name was changed to the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Science. In 1973, the construction of the current building of the Faculty was completed, and in 1984 the Faculty received the name it still bears today. During its existence, the Faculty gradually expanded, becoming the largest of the Silesian University of Technology faculties - currently the Faculty employs over 30 professors, over 50 habilitated doctors and over 200 assistant professors. Currently, the position of the Dean of the Faculty is held by prof. Dariusz Kania, PhD hab., and the functions of deputy deans: Katarzyna Mościńska, PhD, prof. SUT, Dariusz Mrozek, PhD hab, prof. SUT and Dariusz Bismor, PhD hab., prof. SUT.
The Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology educates students in eight fields: Automatic Control and Robotics, Electronics and Telecommunications, Computer Science, Teleinformatics, Biotechnology, Microinformatics of Digital Systems, Informatics and Interdisciplinary Studies: Automatic Control, Electronics and Information Engineering. The last two fields of study are taught in English, and the last one has been accredited by the ABET. To meet the requirements, the Faculty opened its doors in a second location: at ul. Krasińskiego 13, Katowice. In total, the Faculty educates approximately 3,000 students, which constitutes approximately one fourth of the number of students of the Silesian University of Technology.
The anniversary celebrations will be accompanied by an anniversary concert and a general meeting of Faculty Alumni. We invite Employees, Students, Graduates and Friends of the Faculty to celebrate together. Detailed information at 60.aei.polsl.pl.
