30th anniversary of the Silesian University of Technology Academic Music Ensemble
In March 2026, the Mrowisko Student Culture Centre in Gliwice hosted a solemn celebration of the 30th anniversary of the activity of the Academic Music Ensemble (AZM) of the Silesian University of Technology. The jubilee was an opportunity to summarize three decades of artistic activity of the ensemble and to meet several generations of its members – students, graduates and supporters associated with the musical life of the university.
The Silesian University of Technology’s Academic Music Ensemble was established in March 1996 on the initiative of the conductor Krystyna Krzyżanowska-Łoboda and a group of students and graduates of the University interested in making music together. Since the beginning of its activity, the ensemble has been composed of two basic components: a choir and an instrumental ensemble, which is one of its characteristic features among academic music bands in Poland.
The jubilee was celebrated in “Mrowisko” Student Culture Centre. For years, this place has been a natural space for the functioning of the Music Ensemble – it is here that rehearsals of the choir and instrumental ensemble take place, as well as many concerts and events integrating the academic environment of the Silesian University of Technology.
The jubilee meeting was attended by current members of the Ensemble, its graduates and invited guests connected with the cultural life of the University. The invitation to the joint celebration was also accepted by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk.
There was no shortage of songs, music, memories, and a jubilee cake!
Three decades of the Ensemble’s activity are a rich concert history and numerous artistic successes. Academic Music Ensemble has performed in many European countries, won awards at international choir festivals, and organized musical events such as the International Music Workshops “Musica pro Europa.”
The celebration of the 30th anniversary thus became not only a celebration of the ensemble, but also an opportunity to emphasize the role of artistic activity in the academic environment of the Silesian University of Technology. The jubilee in “Mrowisko” symbolically confirmed the continuity of the tradition of the Academic Music Ensemble – a group that for thirty years has been integrating students of various fields around a common passion for music and co-creating the cultural image of the University.
We wish the Academic Music Ensemble many further anniversaries and successes!
