Dr. Michał Kręcichwost one of the laureates of the 15th edition of the LEADER program

We are pleased to announce that Dr. Michał Kręcichwost, assistant professor at the Department of Medical Informatics and Artificial Intelligence at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology and leader of the ForSpeech team, is one of the laureates in the 15th edition of the LEADER program, organized by the National Center for Research and Development.

The project entitled "Computer speech therapy system for recording and analysis of multimodal articulation data using a 4D speaker model and deep learning" was awarded funding in the amount of PLN 1,748,375.00. The project will be implemented for a period of 36 months.

The aim of the SpeechCAD project is to develop a comprehensive system supporting speech therapy diagnostics using modern IT methods. Thanks to the use of 4D speaker models and deep learning techniques, it will be possible to record, analyze and archive articulation data, as well as generate reports supporting the diagnostic process.

The project will create:

  • a mobile device that records a three-dimensional image of the face and the sound of speech,
  • an expert application that analyzes multimodal data using AI,
  • an online platform for visualizing results, archiving data, and conducting remote speech therapy consultations.

The system will enable, among other things, a more accurate assessment of articulation, support for speech therapy, acceleration of screening tests among preschool and school-age children, as well as conducting diagnoses remotely - which is crucial in the context of limited access to specialists in some regions of the country. The LEADER program supports young scientists in gaining experience in managing research projects and developing solutions with high implementation potential. The SpeechCAD project is part of the mission of combining innovative technologies with the real needs of the healthcare and education systems.
