Junior and Senior Polytechnics
On 19.10.20204, a team composed of Dr Janusz Belok, Dr Agnieszka Szymanowska-Gwiżdż, Dr Marcelina Olechowska, Dr Iwona Pokorska-Silva, Dr Michał Marchacz and Dr Beata Wilk-Słomka organised a workshop as part of the Junior and Senior Polytechnics project.
During the first meeting, entitled ‘On the trail of interesting sights - discovering the secrets of Big Ben’, participants learned, among other things, what astronomy has in common with the Big Ben project, how many metres in diameter the dial is, how long its hands are, and whether the clock has ever ‘fallen silent’. They also learned about the features of the architectural style represented by the building. The final result of the meeting was a model of Big Ben, which each participant created with their own hands.
The second event was about the Colosseum. During the event, the most interesting facts about the life of the building were discussed, and participants found out whether the Colosseum was the first Roman amphitheatre, what its functions were and what architectural details it was famous for. They used the knowledge they gained to build a model of the structure.
