Prof. Marcin Szega as chairman of the Energy Commission of PAN division in Katowice
Professor Marcin Szega was elected Chairman of the Energy Commission of the Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice for the term 2023-2026. Dr Andrzej Sachajdak was elected as Secretary of the Commission.
The election took place during the Commission meeting on 25 November 2022 in the reporting and election part. The main part of the meeting took place at Elektrownia Opole and the Opole University of Technology. It was organised in cooperation with the Faculty of Production Engineering and Logistics and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of the Opole University of Technology.
The Energy Commission is part of the Division IV of Technical Sciences of the Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice. The Branch of PAN in Katowice was established in 1974 and covers the Silesian and Opole Voivodships. The Branch's activities are carried out through its scientific committees. Of particular importance is the activity of the Branch of PAN consisting in inspiring and coordinating scientific work in the region.
The basic form of the work of the Energy Commission is the organisation of scientific meetings at university, scientific and industrial centres in the region. The Commission maintains contacts with the Thermodynamics and Combustion Committee and the Committee on Power Engineering Problems of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Through the organisation of scientific meetings at industrial and scientific centres on current problems of the energy economy, the Commission creates a discussion forum which fulfils the role of a social advisory council for energy issues. At the Commission's meetings, among other things, projects for new energy investments or reports on the commissioning and first years of operation of energy facilities are discussed and debated.
