Tarmac Student Research Group at the Tunnel Construction Site in Węgierska Górka
On June 14, 2022 the Katowice branch of GDDKiA once again this year hosted students of the Faculty of Construction of Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice. This time they were students of the Faculty of Construction - members of TarMac Students' Road Research Group, who under the supervision of Dr. Marcin Grygierek had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the current progress of construction works on the bypass of Węgierska Górka within S1 route.
It is worth noting that thanks to the involvement of the Investor - GDDKiA and General Contractor of Works - MIRBUD company, students could familiarize themselves with the technology, and above all, with the engineering challenges that the Contractor faces every day during the construction of two tunnels with a total length of 1,830 m.
Stay at the construction site allowed students to get to know the current technologies used in the construction of transport infrastructure, which will certainly bear fruit at a later stage of their education and career. As the group's tutor, Marcin Grygierek, PhD, points out, the opportunity to become familiar in practice with the investments implemented by the Katowice Branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways (GDDKiA) is part of a long-standing and much-needed tradition of supporting the GDDKiA in educating new generations of infrastructure construction engineers.
