Prof. Józef Głomb has passed away
With deep regret, we announce that on December 13, 2021, prof. Józef Głomb has passed away.
He was born on February 4, 1927 in Tarnów. In 1945 he started his studies at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology. He obtained the PhD title in 1958 at the Faculty of Industrial and General Building Construction of the Silesian University of Technology. He obtained habilitation in 1962 at the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology, associate professor title in 1971 and profesor title 1989.
He was a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 1986; Dean of the Faculty of Industrial and General Building Construction in 1964-1966; Head of the Bridge Construction Department in 1963-1970 and 1975-1994; Director of the Institute of Roads and Bridges of the Silesian University of Technology in 1970-1975.
He has published 150 scientific and technical works in Poland and abroad, including 2 academic textbooks and 4 monographs.
He was a designer of many engineering structures, such as: the bridge over Olza in Cieszyn, the Sports and Entertainment Hall in Katowice and many others. Author of numerous patents and several utility models as well as 300 expert, scientific and technical opinions.
He was a long-time member of the Polish Academy of Sciences and a national consultant in the field of road and bridge construction. Author of several works on the history and aesthetics of bridges, published in Poland and abroad.
