Students received double diplomas
The awarding of double diplomas of the Silesian University of Technology and the THM University of Applied Sciences in Giessen, Germany, to two graduates of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering was part of the meeting of the Cooperation of Universities in Central and Eastern Europe CUCEE. During the two-day seminar there was also a jubilee session devoted to the figure of Prof. Stanisław Fryze.
CUCEE is a network of seven universities that collaborate in teaching and research. Thanks to an agreement with a German university, students of the field of electrical engineering have the opportunity to obtain a double diploma. The third year of study is held at THM University of Applied Sciences, in German.
– I had the opportunity to develop my knowledge of the language and get to know the country better – said Kacper Sadowski, a graduate of the Silesian University of Technology and THM University of Applied Sciences, who emphasized that studies were at a high level and required a lot of work.
– I also do not hide that studies were difficult, but it was worth taking up this challenge, now I am a person who stands out on the labour market – added Dawid Klimek, a graduate of the Silesian University of Technology and THM University of Applied Sciences.

Graduates of both universities received diplomas from Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education and CUCEE coordinator from THM, Prof. Rafael Greszczynski.
– All activities related to the possibility of education in a foreign university develop students, including their soft and linguistic competences – emphasized the Vice-Rector. – Our University creates many opportunities to study abroad, we have a very large offer of education together with foreign partners, currently we are also working on such a solution so that students can receive diplomas from many universities. Participation in the European University EURECA PRO creates such opportunities for us. – added Prof. Chrobok.
As part of the meeting with representatives of the Cooperation of Universities in Central and Eastern Europe CUCEE, a jubilee session devoted to the figure of Prof. Stanisław Fryze – one of the founders of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, which was one of the first five faculties of the Silesian University of Technology took place.

– The session is part of the celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, but a special occasion are round anniversaries related to the activities of the professor -100 years of his doctorate (1924) and 90 years of professorship at the Lviv Polytechnic (1934). On the occasion of the visit of the CUCEE guests, we wanted to commemorate the figure of the professor, in particular because one of the partners of CUCEE is the Lviv University of Technology, with which Prof. Fryze was bound for many years of his life – said Dr Hab. Eng. Mariusz Stępień, prof. SUT.
During the session, the professor’s professional path was discussed, as well as his scientific achievements and power theory. There were no shortage of memories and anecdotes of Prof. Fryze pupils, which were shared by Prof. Zofia Cichowska, associated for many years with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. Prof. Cichowska first met Prof. Fryze as a first-year student in 1952, and after graduating from university and several years of work, she became his assistant.
– There were outstanding professors at the faculty, but no one was as good as Professor Fryze, who was a unique personality, a man of great format, who knew how to combine science with didactics, treated them equally – said Professor Cichowska. – At that time, only a blackboard, chalk and voice were available, the professor supplemented lectures with various bits of advice, shared his life experience. We loved the professor, in his lectures the group leaders did not have to check the attendance, everybody was present.
The participants had the opportunity to see the work of Prof. Fryze from the collections of the Silesian University of Technology Library as well as selected manuscripts of his letters.
