They met after 25 years
In 1999, they graduated from the Silesian University of Technology at the then Faculty of Mining and Geology in the field of mining and geology, specialization in mining geodesy. Most of them have linked their professional lives with this field. After twenty-five years, the graduates of our University decided to meet again and return to the happy years at the University.
The idea for this meeting was born while we were still at the University. We promised it to ourselves. I am glad that after so many years my colleagues have reacted so positively to my message. This twenty-fifth anniversary is an excellent opportunity, and I could not imagine that we would meet in any place other than the Silesian University of Technology - says Lucyna Juzek, the organizer.
The meeting, which took place in the Szychta buffet, was attended by seventeen graduates, as well as the lecturers during their studies: Dr Hab. Eng. Violetta Sokoła-Szewioła, currently Vice-Dean for Science and Cooperation at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. of Silesian University of Technology, Dr Hab. Eng. Ryszard Mielimąka, Prof SUT and Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Manowska, Prof. SUT - Vice-Dean Infrastructure and Education at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation of Silesian University of Technology.
- I conducted classes with this group in the field of geodesy and cartography - says Dr Hab. Eng. Violetta Sokoła-Szewioła, Prof. of Silesian University of Technology - The example of these people perfectly shows that if someone chooses a field of study related to geodesy and completes it, they will cope in professional life. It was a group that wanted to gain knowledge and constantly learn something new. That is why so many of them carry out professional work related to the specialty of education.

The participants emphasized how a good choice was to study at the Silesian University of Technology. Almost all of the current professional lives have been connected with the field of study – some of them run business activities, some work in local government administration units – in the Departments of Geodesy and Cartography, several people work in the mining industry. Some have already begun their retirement life.
- After graduation, I worked first in three different geodesic companies, and after several subsequent changes I finally decided on my own business - says Florian Wroński. - Silesian University of Technology was a very good choice. Although I am not from Silesia, in retrospect I do not regret that I came here to study. I was prepared for the profession; I learned a lot here. I lived in a student dormitory with which I have many wonderful memories. It was a very good time and I am glad to be back here.
Graduates were impressed by the changes that took place in the building of the faculty where they studied, as well as on the campus of the Silesian University of Technology.
- Silesian University of Technology and its surroundings have changed enormously since we graduated. I have been working in the City Hall in Gliwice for over twenty years, so I could watch it on an ongoing basis. I believe that my colleagues from studies could have been positively surprised - explains Jacek Sobelski.
- Such a meeting is an excellent idea to refresh the contact and learn about how our lives turned out to be - says Dariusz Zmuda. - In my case, my grandfather, father, and uncles worked in the mine. The mining traditions in the family were therefore very large, which is why the choice of the field of study was something natural. To this day I work in Zofiówka mine, where I currently serve as a manager the geological and surveying department.
In addition to numerous memories and a commemorative photo, the graduates had the opportunity to visit the geodetic laboratory and computer labs, where students are currently studying geodesy and cartography.
