Meeting of the HANACOAT project implementers
From the 3rd to 5th September 2024, a meeting of the contractors of the HANACOAT project entitled: “The use of nanolaminate coatings for high temperature applications” took place. The project is implemented as part of the Weave-UNISONO program, financed by the National Science Centre. The meeting was attended by representatives of an international consortium from Poland and Germany.
The project participants met at the Faculty of Materials Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in Katowice and at the headquarters of the Lukasiewicz - Upper Silesian Institute of Technology in Gliwice. Scientists from the Silesian University of Technology, the Upper Silesian Institute of Technology – the leader of the consortium, from RWTH Aachen University and the German Aerospace Centre (DLR), discussed and presented the results of research on the production and degradation of MAX coatings in high temperature.
- Modern coatings of this type, embedded with PVD methods, are characterized by excellent properties, especially resistance to thermal shocks, oxidation, and corrosion at high temperature, suitable for applications in the power industry and aviation, e.g. turbine elements - said Dr Eng. Bogusław Mendala, Prof. SUT, of the Faculty of Materials Engineering.
The three-day seminar was also an opportunity to present the scientific potential of the Silesian University of Technology and Polish project partners. Guests from Germany visited, among others, laboratories of our University.
