Prof. Krzysztof Krykowski, D.Sc., Eng. was born on May 6, 1941, in Lviv. In 1964 he graduated from the Faculty of Automation of the Silesian University of Technology, obtaining a master’s degree in electrical automation engineering. In the years 1964-1967 he worked as an engineer at ZPBE Energomiar in Gliwice. He took part, among others, in the commissioning of 120 MW units at Adamów and Stalowa Wola power plants. From 1967 he was associated with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. He obtained doctoral and postdoctoral degrees in electrical engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in 1975 and 1988, respectively. In 2012 he obtained the title of professor. The professor was the author or co-author of over 140 scientific publications, 5 monographs, over 10 academic textbooks. He was a member of scientific committees of many national and foreign scientific conferences. As a power electronics engineer, he was particularly associated with the environment creating the conference “Control in power electronics and electric drive” and the symposium “Energoelectronics in science and didactics.” He participated in 36 scientific and research works for domestic and foreign industry and in 7 scientific and research grants financed from the budget for science. His scientific interests included power electronics applications, modelling and computer simulations of power electronics and electromechanical systems. In recent years, he has begun intensive work on modelling and controlling brushless DC high-speed motors. He has promoted 6 doctors of technical sciences and over 200 engineers and masters of engineering.
He was a lecturer at German and Austrian universities. For 11 months he worked as a full-time professor at the University of Applied Science Rheinland/Pfalz in Trier (Germany). In the years 1989-1994 he was the head of the Department of Electrical Drives at the Institute of Theoretical and Industrial Electrical Engineering, and in the years 2004 2009 he was the head of the Department of Power Electronics at the Department of Power Electronics, Electrical Drives and Robotics. For his scientific and didactic activities, he received, among others, the Gold Cross of Merit and the Minister’s Award three times. He has been awarded numerous awards by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology.
He was a member of the Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Electrical Engineering and a member of the Association of Polish Electrical Engineers.
