Another edition of the Engineering Job, Entrepreneurship, Technology and Accessibility Fair is behind us

Nearly 120 exhibitors, 2,000 job offers and thousands of visitors - the 30th edition of the spring Engineering Job, Entrepreneurship, Technology and Accessibility Fair took place in the hall of the Sports Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.

– The fair is very popular not only among students, but also among secondary school pupils who have to choose their professional and educational path. Here they can talk to employers, learn about individual professions and the needs of the labour market - said the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by prof. Marek Gzik, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. – Companies that are present at these fairs not only create new jobs, but also contribute to the economic development of our region and country. Let us remember that we are in a period of deep economic transformation. What is particularly important for our region is the energy transformation and the development of companies in this area and, consequently, the need to employ competent staff - said prof. Gzik.

There were 120 exhibitors present in the fair hall of the Sports Centre of the Silesian University of Technology, including employers interested in cooperation with representatives of the academic community, institutions providing substantive and financial support to young entrepreneurs, as well as student scientific clubs and organizations enabling young people to develop their scientific passions.

– There were almost 2,000 job offers at the fair, from various industries, including: automotive, construction, automation and robotics, new technologies, green energy and industrial installations and gas industry - says Barbara Odoszewska from the Student Career Office at the Silesian University of Technology.

– This event is a good opportunity for students who are looking for a job, apprenticeship or internship. There are also secondary school graduates present, who are considering choosing their studies and here they can confront their plans with employers. They can also ask who the employers will employ in the future, what fields are worth studying, what courses to take. So this is a great opportunity to confront your ideas with reality - emphasized Dawid Mordarski, chairman of the Student Government of the Silesian University of Technology.

As every year, the exhibition hall was adapted to the needs of people with mobility impairments, assistants for people with disabilities were also available, and all video materials were transcribed.

– We must strive to ensure that there is no division into healthy people and people with disabilities, and that there is no division into students with disabilities and those who can go anywhere. This type of fair shows that we have every right to draw from technological innovations, but also from procedures and cool strategies that are being developed around the world in Europe and in Poland - emphasized Łukasz Krasoń, Secretary of State, government plenipotentiary for people with disabilities.

During the event, the Year of Economic Education in the Silesian province was inaugurated. – Economic knowledge is very necessary. It is not reserved only for businessmen or managers. Today, economic knowledge is used in ordinary, everyday situations, so we should teach it from an early age. So that young people in adult life can consciously make decisions and manage their own budget and finances well - said prof. Celina Olszak, rector of the University of Economics.

During this year's edition of the Spring Engineering Job, Entrepreneurship, Technology and Accessibility Fair, entrepreneurship advisors were also on duty to provide information on the possibilities of obtaining funds for  own business and formal and legal issues related to running it. There was also a Mental Health Centre in the fair hall.

– Nowadays, young people are exposed to many unfavourable factors that may have a negative impact on their mental condition. The pandemic period, lack of contact with peers, but also the requirements of today's world, such as the pressure of pursuing a professional career or the pursuit of money - all this can have a negative impact on the psyche - said Tomasz Kowalczyk from the Mental Health Centre in Toszek.
