4th Scientific Conference for Children and Youth at the Silesian University of Technology

An intelligent eco-house, a visualization and information system for emergency vehicles, an automated garage or a world without electricity - these are just some of the projects prepared by secondary school students as part of the 4th Scientific Conference for Children and Youth "Safety in electrical engineering and power engineering". The event was organized by the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology.

On March 7th, 2024, the 4th edition of the Scientific Conference for Children and Youth was held at the Silesian University of Technology. – These are very talented pupils; we want such people to appear at the Silesian University of Technology. We want them to know how the university functions, learn about interesting issues and interesting people and enthusiasts who present this knowledge to them, he said. prof. Marek Pawełczyk, Vice-Rector for Science and Development.

The competition is also a promotion of our university. - Secondary school students learn about the faculties, what is done there, and the issues that scientists deal with. So this is an initiative with future students and future engineers in mind - emphasizes dr Eng. Marcin Szczygieł, vice-dean for cooperation and development at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

During the conference, pupils presented 10 projects. – Youth prepared projects related to broadly understood safety in electrical engineering and power engineering. We got to know their ideas about what the world without electricity would look like, the pupils also showed, among others: how to provide first aid in the event of electric shock and how to use electricity safely - said dr Eng. Aneta Grodzicka from the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation.

For young people, the conference was an opportunity to present ideas for solving various problems. - Our pupils have been waiting for this conference because they can show their skills here, present their knowledge and at the same time get to know the Silesian University of Technology. This is a valuable experience for them - said Sylwia Gruszka, Deputy Director of the Technical and IT School Complex in Gliwice. The pupils of this school prepared a show entitled: A world without electricity.

- When preparing our presentation, we had to collect a lot of information and thanks to this we learned about aspects we had no idea about before. Additionally, we can learn how to present ourselves in front of an audience, and this is a very important experience, emphasized Oliwier Bielas, a pupil of Technical and IT School Complex in Gliwice.  - We are in our final year of secondary school, so we will soon be entering the university. Today we could get to know the Silesian University of Technology, not only the building, but also its employees - adds Stanisław Szady.

Young people from Gliwice, Piekary Śląskie, Rybnik and Pyskowice took part in the 4th edition of the Scientific Conference for Children and Youth. The pupils' work was assessed by a scientific committee.
