Dr Eng. Jerzy Ihnatowicz has passed away

We regret to inform you that on January 1, 2024, at the age of 72, Dr Eng. Jerzy Ihnatowicz passed away.

A valued scientist, a distinguished academic teacher, a man of great knowledge, vast experience, and an educator of many generations of students has passed away. Dr Eng. Jerzy Ihnatowicz was a long-time employee of the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology.

As part of his scientific activity, as a student of prof. Ernest Czogała and a long-time employee of the Department of Cybernetics, Nanotechnology and Data Processing, and previously the Department of Biomedical Electronics operating within the Institute of Electronics, he also worked at the Centre for Electronic Computing Technology of the Silesian University of Technology. He dealt primarily with issues related to the analysis of digital images. X-ray and isotope equipment were also important topics of his teaching and scientific interests. He was the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications and several scripts. He cooperated with the University of Silesia in Katowice, the University of Wrocław and the Medical Academy of Silesia. He also cooperated with the industry, in particular with Zeiss. He was the author of numerous solutions and implementations in the field of microscopic measurements.

A modest, kind and hard-working man, with high personal culture and great teaching talent, has left us. Known for his conscientiousness and reliability in every field of professional activity, widely liked by colleagues and students.

He was also a member of the Silesian Aero Club, an airplane pilot, and a lecturer at courses and training at the Silesian Aero Club.

Dr Eng. Jerzy Ihnatowicz will remain in our memory forever! We express our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones.

Holy Mass for the deceased will be celebrated on January 4, 2024, at 7:30 a.m. in the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul in Gliwice. Funeral ceremonies will take place on the same day at 10:00 in the chapel at the Central Cemetery in Gliwice.
