The Silesian University of Technology is starting a project with universities from Ukraine and Georgia

Delegations from 4 Ukrainian and 2 Georgian universities arrived on Monday, November 6th, 2023, at the Silesian University of Technology. The visit is related to the PROMENT Erasmus+ project implemented together with 4 European universities.

From November 6th to 10th , 2023, the Silesian University of Technology hosted representatives of Ukrainian and Georgian universities that participate in the joint educational project PROMENT (Promoting professional education and students’ engagement through comprehensive mentoring and tutoring system in HEIs).

The aim of the project is to increase students' employment opportunities by developing their professional competences on the one hand and civic engagement on the other. The project will be implemented based on a comprehensive tutoring and mentoring (T&M) system at partner universities.

The Silesian University of Technology already has experience in implementing mentoring programs. In his letter to the project participants, the Rector prof. dr Eng. Arkadiusz Mężyk noted that the teaching method through mentoring and tutoring programs is one of the most effective.

- We are glad that we are cooperating with the Silesian University of Technology, which is one of the best universities in Poland and is among 10 research universities. We appreciate the high level of teaching here and step by step, in Ukraine we try to keep up with you in terms of science and education. We hope that this cooperation will raise the level of teaching in our country and at our universities, said Oleh Matviikiv, vice-rector of the Lviv University of Technology.

Prof. dr hab. Eng Marek Pawełczyk, Vice-Rector for Science and Development, emphasized that the role of the Silesian University of Technology in this program will be to share its valuable experience.

- When our university was preparing for the competition to become a research university, it also learned from many universities around the world, we visited these universities and tried to collect the best practices and tried to implement them at our university. Some of them could be implemented directly, some required analysis and gradual implementation. It was an inspiration for further development. That's why we appreciate all our guests coming from other universities and we want to share our experience. I believe that we can learn from each other - said prof. Pawełczyk.

- We have prepared a rich program for our project partners, including presentations on incentive programs for students, pro-quality systems, promotion and popularization of science, and career and psychological counselling. During our work, we will also visit various units of our university to present how the T&M system is implemented at our university. Our guests have the opportunity to ask questions in person and establish appropriate contacts - added prof. Anna Chrobok, director of the College of Studies at the Silesian University of Technology.

A total of 10 universities from 6 countries and 6 industrial partners are participating in the project. 4 universities from Ukraine and 2 universities from Georgia.

The PROMENT project is financed by the European Union.
