Women team of AZS Politechnika Śląska basketball players is getting closer to the start in the league
We already know for sure that in the autumn the basketball players of AZS Politechnika Śląska (women team) will start in the second Silesian league. The club is gradually preparing for this in terms of sports and organization.
Let us remind you that in previous years the female basketball representatives of the Silesian University of Technology did a great job both at the Academic Championships of Silesia and the Academic Championships of Poland in basketball, from where they even brought bronze medals. This is a great success that showed their potential. This is how the initiative to create this team was born.
- I must admit that the atmosphere around the reactivation of this team is very positive - says coach Patryk Niczke, an academic teacher from the Sports Centre of the Silesian University of Technology. - We are met with a friendly reception and growing interest in the women's basketball community in Gliwice, and not only.
The squad of this team is almost one hundred percent complete and will start regular training and preparations for the season in August. However, the date of the inauguration of the second league games and the full line-up of the teams that will join them are not yet known. We will keep you informed about this.
In recent weeks, our club played two sparring matches - with teams from Katowice and Racibórz. Unfortunately, both losses, but as the coach emphasizes - the form of his team is still growing.
- Of course, we have faith in our own abilities, and we believe that with full commitment to work during training, good organization and a bit of luck, which is always needed, we can afford positive results - says the coach. - However, I am aware that we are at the very beginning of our path to success and I prefer to carefully assess our capabilities in order to avoid unnecessary disappointments and at the same time be able to enjoy every surprise we can bring.
The sparring games gave us a picture of the really interesting potential of our team. In addition, we received an invitation from RKK AZS Racibórz for a tournament that will be played in September. Then we'll really see what we're capable of. It is worth recalling that last season Racibórz was one of the strongest teams in the 2nd league and was fighting for promotion. All the more, the invitation from them is valuable to us.
It is also worth emphasizing that there are people around the team who want to support it with their actions.
- Undoubtedly, Krystyna Matuszewska should be mentioned here, who professionally deals with the creation of various types of statistics on a daily basis, and for us she created match observation sheets and conducted these observations with full commitment during all our sparring sessions. She also intends to do this during the regular league season - says Patryk Niczke. - In addition, Mikołaj Kukurba, a specialist in rehabilitation and functional and personal training, joined us. This is a huge support, raising our training process to a competitive level. I would also like to thank Professor Krzysztof Czapla for his support and help with our project.
Time will work in favour of basketball players, who should play in more and more harmonious way with each training and match. Moreover, the atmosphere in the team is very good. A lot of good is also happening around the club.
- We have established cooperation with another sponsor, which is a company well known in the environment of the Silesian University of Technology, dealing with the organization of various types of engineering training, i.e., EMT Systems - says the basketball coach. - We met there with a very kind reception, full of interesting plans for the future. A member of the management board who has so positively approached cooperation with us is the former basketball player of Carbo Gliwice, Piotr Podgórski.

- We are also in contact with other potential sponsors - announces Patryk Niczke. - We also already have a great logo, which I am very happy with. It combines all the elements that symbolize the essence of our team. We will find in it symbols related to the Silesian University of Technology, the AZS club, our sport discipline and, of course, a clear figure of a basketball player.
