55 years of scientific work of prof. Jerzy Klamka
During the XXI Polish Control Conference, 55 years of scientific work of prof. Jerzy Klamka, a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a world-class scientist with an impressive output. The professor was awarded the Badge of Merit for the Silesian University of Technology.
As part of the conference, on June 27, a special jubilee scientific session was organized in honour of prof. Jerzy Klamka, led by prof. Józef Korbicz, Chairman of the Automation and Robotics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, at the same time chairman of the scientific committee of the conference. The session began with the presentation of Professor Klamka's profile, followed by a laudatory speech delivered by prof. Marek Pawełczyk, chairman of the organizing committee of the conference and head of the Department of Measurements and Control Systems, where he worked until his retirement, and where prof. Klamka is still active. The Vice-Rector presented prof. Klamka, on behalf of His Magnificence Rector prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, with a Badge of Merit of the Silesian University of Technology with an ID card and a congratulatory letter. More people took the floor, congratulating Professor Klamka and sharing their memories. Then, 5 scientific papers on topics close to the Honourable Guest were delivered.
Prof. Jerzy Klamka graduated with honours from the Faculty of Automatic Control of the Silesian University of Technology in 1968, and then in 1971 also with honours from the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of the University of Silesia. He started his professional career in 1968 at the Faculty of Automatic Control of the Silesian University of Technology, where in 1974 he obtained the degree of Doctor of Technical Sciences with honours. In 1978, the Council of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry of the University of Silesia awarded him the degree of Doctor of Mathematics with distinction. He obtained his habilitation degree in 1981 at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology. He received the academic title of professor in 1990.
Professor Jerzy Klamka's research activity focuses mainly on the theory of dynamical systems and control theory. The professor also made a significant contribution to the use of quantum mechanical methods in computer science. Professor Jerzy Klamka's scientific achievements are impressive. He published over 400 scientific papers, including 6 monographs, 3 scientific dissertations, 10 textbooks and academic scripts. The monograph Controllability of Dynamical Systems, published by Kluwer Academic Publishers, gained enormous international recognition. Professor Klamka delivered about 200 conference papers. He managed the implementation of many research projects. Professor Jerzy Klamka has been a corresponding member since 2002 and a full member of the Polish Academy of Sciences since 2010. He headed the Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Katowice. For over 20 years he was the deputy director of the Institute of Automation at the Silesian University of Technology. He was also the deputy director of the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Gliwice. Professor Jerzy Klamka has been awarded many times for his scientific, research and didactic activity, and four times with the Minister's Award. He also received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa from the Bialystok University of Technology.
