Study with the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik!
On April 27th, 2023, the Open Day of the Continuing Education Centre - a branch of the Silesian University of Technology in Rybnik was held. During the event, the opening of recruitment for this year's secondary school graduates in the field of logistics in Rybnik was announced, subject to the approval of the Ministry of Education and Science.
– The city needs the university, and the university needs the city. This is city-forming and city-forming academically for communes - said during the Open Day dr hab. Zygmunt Łukaszczyk, prof. SUT, director of the Continuing Education Centre in Rybnik. – We are back with polytechnic education in the Rybnik centre. Communes need good city and regional logistics specialists, good engineers, and the Silesian University of Technology can provide it - added the director.
Present at the meeting, dr Eng. Katarzyna Dohn, prof. SUT introduced the participants of the meeting to the substantive arrangement of the subjects implemented as part of the curriculum in the field of logistics, along with detailed information on the specialist competences obtained. She also presented the possibilities of entering the labour market for graduates of this field of study.
Dr hab. Jarosław Brodny, prof. SUT emphasized the advantages of studying at the Silesian University of Technology, in particular in the field of logistics. – There is no area where logistics, in some form, would not be used today. This is a top field of study, and the specialisation for Rybnik - Logistics of Cities and Regions is extremely prospective in every respect, including finding a good job or starting one’s own business - noted dr hab. Jarosław Brodny, prof. of SUT.

Encouraging future candidates to choose the specialisation of Cities and Regions in the field of Logistics, dr Eng. Jadwiga Grabowska emphasized that currently logistics has an increasing impact on the spatial allocation of transport flows and the location of warehouse space in regions and metropolitan areas. – Logistic decisions made in this area allow for the optimization of the flow of people and goods and the location of points infrastructure elements (warehouses, transfer centres, bus stops). Shaping the space of cities, including the conditions determining the quality of life in the city and adapting the city to the needs of various groups of people, e.g. seniors or people with disabilities, is currently a significant challenge for logistics - said dr Eng. Jadwiga Grabowska.
The city authorities are also happy about the return of students of the Silesian University of Technology to Rybnik. – For the city, student life means a lot and it is not only about the joy that students bring, but above all about the future and development of the city. We have seen how important logistics is many times, for example during the pandemic and the Ukrainian crisis, when supply chains were interrupted. Why are we glad that such a field of study will appear in Rybnik - said the deputy mayor of the city, Piotr Masłowski

During the Open Day, secondary school pupils present at the event took part in a drone show, the use of which will become increasingly important in many areas of industry, including the development of logistics. - We are a research university. We do not stand still, we follow new technologies, which is why our students will take part in the "Drones in education" program, which is an interesting form of learning physics or mathematics and improves teamwork - said dr Eng. Aldona Rosner from the Continuing Education Centre in Rybnik. - The "Drones in education" program allows you to learn programming using small, safe educational drones - added Dr Eng. Aldona Rosner.
