Festival of Science and Business "Patent for profit"
Integration of science and business, dissemination of scientific achievements, the idea of commercialization of research results and patent protection, awards for Innovation Leaders of the Silesian University of Technology - the University's calendar of events includes the Festival of Science and Business, organized by the Centre for Incubation and Technology Transfer, which was held for the first time in on April 26-27.
The aim of the festival is primarily to integrate the scientific and business community and to disseminate knowledge about intellectual property. The choice of the date was not accidental - April 26th is World Intellectual Property Day.
- Our task is also to educate about the protection of intellectual property, we teach respect for intellectual property law and during the festival we discuss this topic from the perspective of entrepreneurs, scientists, as well as innovation brokers and patent attorneys - said Dr Eng. Magdalena Letun-Łątka, director Centre for Incubation and Technology Transfer of the Silesian University of Technology, the organizer of the event. - We integrate the scientific and business environment - she added.
On the first day of the festival, a conference was held at the CITT headquarters, during which scientists and entrepreneurs discussed the implementation and commercialization of scientific research results, and patent attorneys discussed the most important issues regarding the legal and market aspects of intellectual property protection. The meeting was also an opportunity to establish contacts between representatives of business and science.

- I encourage you to cooperate with the Silesian University of Technology and other universities, for example, as part of support in designing prototypes of certain solutions or verifying the profitability of ideas whose market is currently full - argued Dominik Gladys, co-owner of the Ergonome company from Katowice. – Many companies, including mine, do not have employees who are comprehensively educated in every field, which is why cooperation with science is essential.
The aim of the festival is also to disseminate scientific achievements and the idea of commercialization of research results, as well as patent protection of the best solutions in the new technology sector and other industries in the socio-economic environment. Commercialization is a broadly understood profit, not only financial.
- It is also a broadly understood promotion of the entire university, many creators emphasize that their solutions, protected for the benefit of the Silesian University of Technology, are visible in remote corners of the world - emphasized Magdalena Filipek-Marzec, CIIT patent attorney - the protection of intellectual property and the number of patents obtained also translates into evaluation of the university's scientific activity is important when applying for project funding, but of course we strive for the final result to be a financial result, she added.

During the "Patent for profit" festival, the official results of the "Innovation Leader of the Silesian University of Technology" competition, addressed to researchers, doctoral students and students of the University, were announced. The competition was aimed at supporting creators of intellectual goods whose achievements stand out from the background of the University, are characterized by an appropriate level of technological readiness and implementation potential.

The second day of the festival took place in the garden of the Silesian University of Technology Employees Club. It was an opportunity for a less formal meeting, establishing relationships, as well as promoting the scientific and research achievements of the employees of the Silesian University of Technology. There were plenty of attractions for the youngest, scientific shows, scientific lectures and... fun.
