The seventh edition of the Competition "For the golden index of the Silesian University of Technology” is over. On April 13th , during the final gala, awards were presented to 33 winners from all over Poland.

The competition is organized periodically and aims to promote science among secondary school pupils and to select the most talented among them.

The competition was conducted by the relevant subject committees, which included academic teachers. The first stage consisted in solving tasks remotely. Participants of the first stage with the appropriate number of points qualified for the second stage. The best received the titles of Laureates of the 1st , 2nd  and 3rd  degree.

The main prize for the 1st  degree winners are places in almost all fields of study at the Silesian University of Technology. The 2nd  and 3rd  degree winners receive additional preferential points in the recruitment procedure. 189 pupils  applied for the final edition of the competition, who had to prove their knowledge in four subject areas: chemistry, physics, computer science and mathematics. Among this year's winners are secondary school pupils not only from the Silesian Voivodeship, but also from distant Polish cities, including Krakow, Warsaw, Rzeszów, Mielec, Stalowa Wola, Krosno and Limanowa.

- This is a very valuable initiative, which we are repeating for the seventh time. For us, it is an opportunity to encourage the most talented secondary school pupils to study at the Silesian University of Technology. We give the winners the opportunity to choose their field of study, and our offer is so interesting that we believe that a large part of those awarded today will stay with us - said prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk – The Rector of the Silesian University of Technology.

It is worth noting that the winners who decide to study at one of our faculties will receive one more bonus in the form of the opportunity to take advantage of the "Spread Your Wings" mentoring program.

Yesterday's winners confirmed that the competition is a great opportunity for them to start their future careers.

- I am very happy that I received the Golden Index, because I am considering further education in the field of chemistry, and I have heard a lot of good things about the fact that the Silesian University of Technology guarantees a good level in this field - said Antoni Nowak, a pupil of the fourth grade of the Nicolaus Copernicus Secondary Comprehensive School in Żywiec, who was awarded the third degree.

A similar opinion was shared by Kamil Adamczyk from the 8th Secondary Comprehensive School  in Katowice, who won the prize in the field of mathematics. – The competition was really demanding, but thanks to that I could test my knowledge before the final exams. I was wondering what college to choose. Thanks to this competition, I know that the Silesian University of Technology will be my first choice - assured the winner.

In total, 33 laureates were awarded this year with 7 first-class prizes, 9 second-class prizes and 17 third-class prizes, most of them in the field of chemistry and computer science.
