Qualifications for the finals of the XXX Olympiad in Information Technology are underway at the Silesian University of Technology

The 2nd  stage of the XXX Olympiad in Information Technology is underway at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology. Secondary school pupils from all over the Silesian Voivodeship take part in it.

The competition of the Olympiad in Information Technology consists of three stages. In Silesia, the second stage takes place at the Faculty of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science of the Silesian University of Technology. 31 players from schools from the Metropolis of Upper Silesia and Zagłębie, as well as from Częstochowa, Żywiec and Cieszyn qualified for it. Participants must demonstrate the ability to analyse algorithmic problems, specify them, create efficient algorithms and implement them in a high-level programming language, select appropriate data structures, test programs, and work in a programming environment.

- The tasks are difficult, original, but also interesting and require extensive IT knowledge, which is why the best of the best participate in this stage - said dr hab. Eng. Krzysztof Siminski, prof. of SUT. 

Winners of the Olympiad at the national level receive preferential points in recruitment to universities. – The Silesian University of Technology also offers special development paths to the finalists, which are in line with its Priority Research Areas – said dr hab. Eng. Krzysztof Siminski, prof. of SUT. 

Participation in the competition is an opportunity to present the faculty and encourage young people to study at the Silesian University of Technology. - Pupils can see what the University looks like, how we are organized - added the scientist.

31 pupils take part in the Olympics, among them Kuba and Stanisław from the III Secondary Comprehensive School in Zabrze.  - I wanted to test my knowledge, learn a bit, especially since in the future I would like to study Computer Science at the Silesian University of Technology - said Kuba.

– I am taking part in the Olympics because I wanted to learn analytical thinking, solving mathematical or IT problems. In the future, I want to get a profession that will provide me with a good job - said Stanisław.

 - Participation in the Olympics is a chance to deepen one's knowledge, as well as to gain preferential points in recruitment - added Michał from IX Secondary Comprehensive School  from Częstochowa.

Students will be solving IT problems until Thursday, February 16. The best will go to the national stage. From among the best finalists, the Polish team is selected for the International Olympiad in Information Technology and other international IT competitions.
