Four hundred students visited the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology

Visiting modern laboratories, popular science lecture, presentations of student scientific clubs - an Open Day was held at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology. More than four hundred high school students participated in the event.

The Open Day at the faculty was held for the second time. - We want to interest young people in this very interesting, interdisciplinary field of study. Familiarize them with our didactic offer, show the entire laboratory base and the conditions in which they can study. Our database allows students to develop their interests in the field of computer science, electronics, mechanics and biomechanics, biomaterials or various types of materials and applications used in medicine - said the Dean of the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering, prof. Zbigniew Paszenda.

Implementation of such interdisciplinary education at the faculty is possible thanks to the competent scientific and teaching staff and the appropriate laboratory base, which last year was enriched by another dozen or so laboratories located in The European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC) at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering.

- The main goal of EHTIC is, of course, the implementation of scientific research in cooperation with partners from the socio-economic environment, but we also invite students to this cooperation. We believe that the best way to gain knowledge is to work alongside experienced scientists and practitioners - emphasized prof. Marek Gzik, director of the European HealthTech Innovation Centre (EHTIC)

The Open Day was attended by over four hundred secondary school pupils, including youth from the 1st   Secondary Comprehensive School in Gliwice. – We want to show our pupils interesting, future-oriented fields of study. We came here with pupils of biology and chemistry classes because they may be interested in studying in this field - said Anna Bul, a physics teacher.

- I really like the organization of the Open Day, the fact that I can personally see what it is like here, listen to a lecture. Until now, I was sure that I would not go to the university of technology, but now I'm starting to think about it, because I was very interested in all this, added Hanna Mikuła, a pupil at the 1st Secondary Comprehensive School.

During the event, young people took part in a popular science lecture entitled "What's in the shadows, or the spider fell into the tomograph". Presentations of their projects were also prepared by members of student clubs operating at the faculty (SKN Synergia, SKN Biomechatronic BIOKREATYWNI, SKN BIOSOFT).
