Inauguration of the academic year at the Joint Doctoral School
For the fourth time The Joint Doctoral School inaugurated the academic year. This year, almost 170 new PhD students started their education.
The ceremonial inauguration took place at the Educational and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology with the participation of prof. Janusz Kotowicz, Vice-Rector for Cooperation with the Socio-Economic Environment. Inaugural lecture entitled "Quantum computing and quantum technologies" was delivered by dr hab. Jarosław Miszczak.
- The most important task facing us is the increase in internationalization of the Doctoral School. It must be admitted, however, that the number of foreign doctoral students is increasing every year. This year, more than a half of those admitted are from abroad and we can expect that in the coming years their participation will be even greater. It is connected with the necessity to conduct education process entirely in English - said prof. Tadeusz Wieczorek, director of the School of Doctors.
Among the doctoral students who start their education is Kacper Kuta, who will be writing an implementation doctorate in the field of mechanical engineering. - The Silesian University of Technology is a good place to study, and the implementation doctorate gives the engineer a chance for development - said Kacper Kuta.
Agnieszka Bluszcz will also write an implementation doctorate at our University. - My job is in the field of environmental engineering, specifically industrial wastewater treatment. The doctorate will help to increase the efficiency of cleaning this wastewater from toxic substances in the company where I work, said the doctoral student.
During the inauguration of the academic year, the representatives of the newly admitted doctoral students took the oath. This year, almost 170 new doctoral students began education at the Joint Doctoral School.
