Prof. Stanisław Cierpisz has died
We regret to inform you that on October 7th, 2022, at the age of 83, prof. dr hab. Eng. Stanisław Cierpisz - retired professor at the Silesian University of Technology, associated with our University for several decades has died.
In the years 1997-2009, the professor was the head of the Department of Electrification and Automation of Mining (currently the Department of Electrical Engineering and Industrial Automation at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation).
The funeral ceremony will take place on October 13th (Thursday). It will start at 11.00 at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Katowice.
Stanisław Cierpisz was born on December 11th 1939, in Lviv. He graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology in 1961. He defended his doctoral thesis in 1968 at the Faculty of Automatic Control of our University, and he obtained the postdoctoral degree at the Faculty of Mining in 1979. He obtained the title of professor in 1989.
From 1975 he worked at the EMAG Centre in Katowice, where he held many functions, including the post of the director for science and research. In 1969, he received a UN scholarship in Great Britain, and in 1975-76 - a Fulbright scholarship in the United States. In the years 1986-1987 he was on a scholarship in South Africa.
On October 1st, 1983, he started working at the Department of Electrification and Automation of Mining at the Silesian University of Technology. In the years 1997-2009 he was the head of the Department.
The main area of the Professor's research activity concerned the research of automatic control systems for the mechanical processing of coal, the issues of optimal control of processing processes and their simulation models. During the years of his work at the Silesian University of Technology, he managed several research projects. He was the author and co-author of several monographs and 200 scientific publications.
Professor Stanisław Cierpisz actively participated in international cooperation in the field of foreign scholarships, lectures and numerous international conferences. He was a member of various scientific bodies - including the chairman of the Cybernetics Section in Mining of the Mining Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
