Scientists of the Silesian University of Technology are finalists of the POLITYKA Science Awards

Dr Eng. Marcelina Jureczko from the Biotechnology Centre and M.Sc. Eng. Arch. Anna Kurianowicz from the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology are among the 15 finalists of the 26th edition of the POLITYKA Science Awards. The researchers were distinguished in two different categories – exact sciences and technical sciences.

In this year’s edition of the POLITYKA Science Awards competition, the Professorial Chapter selected 15 finalists representing five fields of science: humanities, social sciences, life sciences, exact sciences, and technical sciences from among almost 400 candidates. Among the finalists there are two representatives of the Silesian University of Technology: Dr Eng. Marcelina Jureczko from the Biotechnology Centre, representing exact sciences in the field of chemistry and biotechnology and M.Sc. Eng. Arch. Anna Kurianowicz from the Faculty of Architecture, a finalist in the category of technical sciences in the field of architecture.

Dr Eng. Marcelina Jureczko conducts scientific activities in the field of chemistry and biotechnology. Her research focuses, among others, on ecotoxicity and removal of cytostatic drugs, combining issues from the borderline of engineering sciences, environmental protection, and biotechnology.

In her self-presentation published by Polityka, the researcher emphasizes the importance of her work. - I strongly believe that my approach to the problem of ecotoxicity and removal of cytostatic drugs is of great importance for the development of science in the field of engineering and environmental protection.

The second finalist, M.Sc. Eng. Arch. Anna Kurianowicz from the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology was recognized among candidates in the category of technical sciences. Her research interests focus on shaping urban spaces and ways of integrating nature-based solutions with urban tissue.

- I am fascinated by how to arrange urban spaces so that they are friendly to live. I focus on consciously weaving nature into the urban fabric: Green roofs, rain gardens, retention basins, urban wetlands – says the researcher.

We are also pleased to inform  that the group of finalists in the field of technical sciences also includes a graduate of the Silesian University of Technology – Dr Eng. Krzysztof Kotowski.

The award ceremony is scheduled for October 18th , 2026.

Congratulations to all the finalists and we wish you further success!
