Silesian University of Technology in the World’s Top 100 in Shanghai Ranking GRAS 2026
The Silesian University of Technology has been ranked among the world’s top 100 universities in the latest edition of the ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2026. In Automation & Control, the University was ranked 76–100 globally and is the only Polish institution included in this subject. Overall, the Silesian University of Technology was ranked in seven subjects, achieving the best result in Poland in two of them.
This year’s ranking also brought a significant improvement in Telecommunication Engineering, with the University moving up from the 301–400 range to 201–300. This is the best result in Poland among the two Polish universities included in the ranking.
The strongest result in this year’s edition was achieved in Automation & Control, where the Silesian University of Technology was ranked 76–100 worldwide, as the only Polish institution represented in this subject.
In Metallurgical Engineering, the University maintained its position from last year, ranking 201–300 globally. The Silesian University of Technology is one of three Polish higher education institutions included in this subject.
In four further subjects, the Silesian University of Technology was ranked within the 301–400 range worldwide:
- Artificial Intelligence – one of three Polish universities included in the ranking;
- Earth Sciences – 2nd in Poland and the highest-ranked Polish university of technology;
- Civil Engineering – one of four Polish universities of technology;
- Instruments Science & Technology – one of six Polish universities of technology.
This year’s results confirm the high quality of research conducted at the Silesian University of Technology and reflect the sustained efforts of the entire academic community. They are the achievement of numerous research teams, staff members and doctoral candidates whose work contributes to the University’s increasingly strong position in international rankings.
The ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects is compiled by the independent ShanghaiRanking Consultancy, which is also responsible for the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), commonly known as the Shanghai Ranking. GRAS covers 57 subjects across the natural sciences, engineering, medical sciences and social sciences.
A total of 32 Polish higher education institutions were included in the 2026 edition, with the Silesian University of Technology ranked in seven subjects.
