Civil Engineering students with big hearts!

Civil Engineering students are not bored during the holidays. They hone their practical skills and do a good deed at the same time. We are talking about 26 students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology who, together with the Young Staff Circle of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians – Gliwice Branch, got involved in the renovation of the Care and Educational Facility No. 2 in Ruda Śląska.

The Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians has been operating in Poland since 1934, with branches in various cities. PZITB is a nationwide, professional, supra-university and supra-corporate association. One of the PZITB branches is located in Gliwice, and importantly, it cooperates on an ongoing basis with the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Silesian University of Technology.

The Gliwice Branch of the Polish Association of Civil Engineers and Technicians (PZIiTB) is composed of current students and employees of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Within each Branch there are various Circles, including the Young Staff Circle, which brings together civil engineering students, young technicians and engineers up to 30 years of age. A significant part of this team are students who graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

It was they who came up with the idea of implementing the "Workcamp MK PZITB" project. This is an unusual practical camp that allows to hone one’s skills in civil engineering and related industries.

- Last year we (as the Gliwice Branch) organised a Workcamp together with colleagues from Wrocław and Opole in the Opole Voivodeship, renovating a facility that suffered damage in the flood of 2024. It can be said without modesty that this initiative came from Gliwice – recalls M.Sc. Eng. Jakub Groń, graduate of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and chairman of the Young Staff Circle.

- Due to the success of the previous edition, we decided to organize the event independently as the Gliwice Branch. This time we have assembled a team of coordinators and selected (on our own) a facility that we can help by checking various facilities and adapting them to our capabilities. The choice fell on the Care and Educational Facility No. 2 in Ruda Śląska – adds Jakub Groń.

Work on the facility began on July 18th, and the planned completion date is August 3rd, 2026. 26 people (including coordinators) volunteered to work.

Students perform a range of construction work – painting walls, laying panels and tiles. This is a practical vocational school. All this would not be possible without the support of companies in the region.

- We invited sponsors to cooperate (Dlubal, Mostostal Zabrze Industrial Realizations, RISER, Łęgprzem, NDI, Poolaqua). We thank them for their support, added the chairman.
