Another success of scientists from the Silesian University of Technology

The National Science Centre announced the results of the OPUS 30 and SONATA 21 competitions. These were the largest editions of research project competitions in the history of the National Science Centre - over five hundred grants for basic research with a total value of almost PLN 912 million will be awarded to Polish research units.

The OPUS 30+LAP/Weave and SONATA 21 competitions received a record number of over 3,700 applications – nearly 15 percent more than the year before, and a record budget was allocated for their financing – the largest in the history of these competitions.

Funding will be provided to 522 projects (the number does not include LAP applications) across Poland.

The winners of the competition at the Silesian University of Technology are:

  • Dr. Joanna Paulina Żur-Pińska, Biotechnology Centre, SONATA 21 competition

Project title: The role of lipid-dependent DSF signalling in the regulation of efflux pumps and antibiotic resistance in Stenotrophomonas maltophilia

Funding amount: 1,377,807 PLN

  • Dr Eng. Yukesh Kannah Ravi, Centre for Organic and Nanohybrid Electronics, SONATA 21 competition,

Project title: Sustainable valorisation of agricultural waste for more ecological bioproducts and a closed bioeconomy

Funding amount: 1,822,680 PLN

  • Dr. Yauhen Aniskevich, Centre for Organic and Nanohybrid Electronics, SONATA 21 competition

Project title: Manganese-ion batteries based on new electrolytes

Funding amount: 1,763,980 PLN

  • Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Dorota Neugebauer, Faculty of Chemistry. OPUS 30 competition

Project title: Transdermal photo release of drugs by amphiphilic polymers: response modification by azochromophore and conjugation strategy, topology and carrier composition

Funding amount: PLN 1,209,508, subsidy amount for the SUT: 777,628 PLN

Project in the consortium of the Silesian University of Technology – leader and the Centre for Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences

Funding amount: PLN 3,991,962 Amount of funding for the Silesian University of Technology: 386,740 PLN 

University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn – leader and the National Institute of Public Health PZH – National Research Institute, European Regional Centre for Ecohydrology of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Silesian University of Technology,

  • Dr. Dzmitry Kharytonau, manager at the Silesian University of Technology: Dr Eng. Katarzyna Łyczkowska, Faculty of Materials Engineering and Digitalization of Industry, SONATA 21 competition

Project title: Linking Alloy Microstructure, Modulator Chemistry, and Corrosion Mechanisms: A Scientific Basis for Targeted Control of Zinc Alloy Corrosion Processes

Funding amount: PLN 1,726,300, Amount of funding for the Silesian University of Technology: 181,780 PLN

Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry named after Jerzy Haber Polish Academy of Sciences – leader and Silesian University of Technology,

The project applications were prepared in close cooperation between the future project managers and the National Projects Service Office (CZP1), which supports scientists both at the application stage and during the implementation of the obtained grants.
