Sappers and scientists in joint training
Scientists from the Silesian University of Technology, representing the Faculty of Chemistry, Department of Chemical Engineering and Process Design, High Energy and Electroactive Materials Team and employees of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics took part in a specialized training with representatives of uniformed services of the Police in Katowice.
Uniformed officers from the independent counter-terrorist division of the Police in Katowice conducted a specialized mining-pyrotechnic training, focused on issues related to blowing up self-propelled explosives and explosive mixtures.
Real scenarios were practiced, specialist knowledge was shared and experience was exchanged with experts. For several days, the participants of the training perfected their activities in the field of reconnaissance and neutralization of explosive threats, combining operational practice with the experience of the scientific and military environment.
As we read in the press release of the Silesian Police, the exercises were practical and were prepared on the basis of the real threat that police counter-terrorists may face during operational activities. One of the key elements of the training was the observation of the impact of explosives on vehicles. This allowed for a detailed analysis of the effects of detonation, assessment of the severity of the impact and verification of the effectiveness of the methods used to neutralize threats.
The training was also attended by representatives of the scientific community and the military. Scientists from the Silesian University of Technology, representing the Faculty of Chemistry, Department of Chemical Engineering and Process Design, High Energy and Electroactive Materials Team, employees of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, as well as soldiers of the 6th Sapper Patrol of the Airborne Battalion in Gliwice took part in the training. Their involvement enabled the combination of theoretical knowledge with practical experience, which significantly increased the value of the training.
Practitioners with scientists shared their experiences and knowledge. Joint actions constitute an important element of building cooperation between the Police, the scientific community, and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland. Such initiatives allow not only to improve the skills of officers, but also to develop modern technological solutions in the area of explosives.
