Opening of the Aerospace Engineering Training Centre in Gliwice

On April 10th, 2026, the official opening of the Aerospace Engineering Training Centre took place at Gliwice Airport. The initiative was implemented thanks to close cooperation between the Silesian University of Technology and the companies Apollo Spirit and Progresstechgroup.

The ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Academic Civil Aviation Personnel Education Centre for Central and Eastern Europe of the Silesian University of Technology (Gliwice - Trynek, 36, Akrobatów Lotniczych Street). The event was led by the director of the Centre, Dr Hab Eng. Jarosław Kozuba, Prof. SUT. The participants – including students – were welcomed by Dr Hab. Eng. Marcin Staniek, Prof. SUT, Vice-Rector for Collaboration with the Civic and Economic Environment of SUT.

The business profile of Progresstechgroup and the planned scope of cooperation with the Aerospace Engineering Training Centre in Gliwice were presented by Anton Kulchitsky, President of Progresstechgroup. In turn, Olena Lysenko, director of Apollo Spirit Poland, in her speech emphasized the importance of educating aviation personnel in the area of new technologies. She also pointed out that the creation of training centres equipped with systems enabling the design of aircraft plays a key role.

The opening was also attended by representatives of the faculties, including Dr Hab.Eng Marcin Adamiak, Prof. SUT – Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Dr Hab. Eng. Grzegorz Sierpiński, Prof. SUT, Dean of the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering at SUT.

After the speeches, there was a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the event concluded with a group photo session of participants and students.

The important point on the agenda was the signing of a cooperation agreement. On behalf of the Silesian University of Technology, the document was signed by Prof. Marcin Staniek, and on behalf of the business partner – Olena Lysenko, President of the Management Board of Apollo Spirit Poland.

After the official part, guests took part in a banquet and had the opportunity to tour the Centre’s hangars. The program also included familiarization flights on aircraft operated by the Academic Aviation Training Centre (ATO POLSL) of the Silesian University of Technology and a presentation of modern technical facilities.

With students in mind, an additional substantive part was prepared in the form of two dedicated sessions at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Gliwice and at the Faculty of Transport and Aviation Engineering in Katowice, during which Mr. Maksym Gladskyi (HR Director of Progresstech Ukraine) gave a presentation on the new internship and training program " 2026 AIRFRAME STRUCTURAL DESIGN PROGRAM " . This program is directly addressed to students of the Silesian University of Technology, with particular emphasis on transport and aerospace engineering.

After meeting with students, the guests participated in a demonstration of a modern air traffic control (ATC) simulator in Katowice.

The opening of the Aerospace Engineering Training Centre is another step in the development of the teaching infrastructure of the Silesian University of Technology and in strengthening the competences of future engineers – in close cooperation with international business partners.
