Active students and PhD students rewarded
Such a ceremony at the Silesian University of Technology has not yet taken place. On January 16th, 2026, the Rector’s Award was granted to students and PhD students of the Silesian University of Technology for their special involvement in organizational activities for the University. The event was prestigious and confirmed the highest recognition for the activities of the Laureates.
During the meeting with the Rector Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk and Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, the awarded students and laureates received a commemorative diploma and small gifts.
- This is the first time we have awarded this award. We see and appreciate the involvement of students and doctoral students in the daily activities of the university. This is something they do outside of their basic activities, for which we would like to thank them in a special way – said the Rector.
Vice-Rector Anna Chrobok added that she was impressed by the activity of people involved in the activities of student self-government, who organize many university events. – We are glad that young people themselves want to shape university life, that they feel good with us. I hope they will continue to act so actively, she added.
The award for students and doctoral students of the Silesian University of Technology for a special involvement in organizational activities for the University was granted for the first time but will permanently enter the life of the university. In the first edition, the awards were received by a total of 25 people – 20 students and 5 PhD students. The winners were distinguished by their activity in the student self-government, student science clubs, or the academic dance ensemble “Dąbrowiacy.”

The winners emphasized that the award not only gave them satisfaction but also had a motivating effect.
- So far, I have been acting as a president in the Silesian Student Science Club. It is a Club of Geologists. I co-organized the Mineral Exchange, together with the Museum of Deposit Geology. We are involved in various research and away projects, for example, in that week our Club returned from a trip to Spain, where we implemented the project – says a student Kinga Kwiecień, who is studying at the same time in two fields of study. - I graduate this year and I already know that I would like to continue my education at the Silesian University of Technology and pursue my doctorate here - she added. The award gave her additional motivation.
Klaudia Cholewa, a PhD student, was also extremely happy.
- I promote our University of Technology on the national and international arena. I also served as a secretary in the doctoral community. I still work in the student self-government, but I also develop as a scientist – admitted Klaudia Cholewa, PhD student at the Faculty of Biomedical Engineering. The second-year student and the Laureate is pursuing an implementation doctorate at the Foundation for the Development of Cardiac Surgery, and it is a topic on the border of cardiac surgery and mechanical circulatory support.
