The winners of the subject Olympiads and the Golden Index competition met with the Rector’s authorities

On the 16th of January, a meeting of the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk and Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok  with  first-year students – the best candidates in the recruitment process, winners of the subject Olympiads and the competition “For The Golden Index of the Silesian University of Technology” was held in the Senate Hall.

It was a great opportunity for students to meet and talk to the Rector’s authorities. The meeting took place in a very positive atmosphere.

- I was very proud to listen to the students’ comments. We met with them so that they could talk to us as openly and honestly as possible – says Rector Marek Pawełczyk. – These are the winners of the national subject Olympiads, so people who have already had a lot of experience  – in addition to the duties they had on a daily basis in secondary school, they had to prepare for competitions in an above-average way, deal with stress, big competition and win. I am glad that there are so many of them in our university. They are also very conscious and extremely demanding people, and yet their impressions after the first months of study are very positive.

Among the students were also winners of the competition “For the Golden Index of Silesian University of Technology.” Its aim is to promote science among secondary school pupils and to select the most talented among them. The main prize for the first-degree winners are places at almost all fields of study at the Silesian University of Technology, and preferential points in recruitment proceedings for the second and third-degree winners.

- It was a good decision to compete in the competition "For the Golden Index of Silesian University of Technology". This is an excellent form of proving oneself and gives a lot of opportunities when recruiting. It was not as demanding for me as the subject Olympiad – says Dominik Styła, a student of chemical technology at the Faculty of Chemistry, who stressed that he feels good in the first months at the University, and he enjoys the atmosphere at the campus.

Young people also encourage secondary school pupils to participate in the subject Olympiads.

- I definitely recommend. This is a new experience, you can learn a lot, and it is a guarantee of a place at a university and a chance to receive a scholarship – says Mateusz Kocur, a student of automation and robotics at the Faculty  of Automatic Control, Electronics and Computer Science.

The participants of the meeting emphasized how good they feel at the Silesian University of Technology during the meeting with the Rector’s authorities.

- I am very happy with my first few months at this university. To be honest, the Silesian University of Technology turned out to be much better than I imagined. It turns out that teachers and lecturers are even better here than those in a technical vocational school where I was already satisfied with my teachers. I have very helpful lecturers, I met a lot of new people, there is a great campus here, well-kept buildings - says Adam Knapik, a student of geodesy and cartography at the Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering, and Industrial Automation.

- I am very happy with the choice of Silesian University of Technology. This University gives me great opportunities, among others through numerous competitions – explains Kinga Wojnowska, a student of architecture at the Faculty of Architecture.
Vice-Rector Anna Chrobok was pleased with the meeting.

- The opinion of all students is very important to us. During this meeting, we had the opportunity to listen to the voice of the most talented students of the first year and ask how they can still be helped in improving their skills so that they can develop even more at the Silesian University of Technology and realize their dreams – says Vice-Rector Anna Chrobok. - I was really proud and happy when they praised our studies after their first semester, which is very demanding for every student. They explained that they are getting help, they can get advice from other people and there is a good environment to study here.

The Silesian University of Technology has a lot to offer the most talented students, which was also emphasized by the Rector Marek Pawełczyk.

- Our University gives students the opportunity to engage in scientific activities through student science clubs or PBL projects, as well as individual work with a scientist or mentoring. These offers are very popular – explains the Rector. – We encouraged students to point out topics that we can constantly improve at the Silesian University of Technology. I am pleased that these people have been well received in their faculties. At the same time, it is very encouraging and motivating that among them there are students from other parts of the country, who, despite having had the offer of similar courses of study in many other large cities, learned, among others, from social media, that there is a high level and a positive atmosphere here. They decided to come to the Silesian University of Technology and here they found their place.
