Invitation to the lecture: “Waste-water through the centuries: from ancient civilizations to the bio-refineries of the future”
What was the protection of water in ancient civilizations like? What did 19th century metropolises have to deal with? And what do scientists use wastewater treatment plants for today? Dr Eng. Grzegorz Cema will talk about issues related to water protection and the development of biotechnology during a lecture on the 27th of January at the Municipal Public Library in Gliwice.
From ancient India and Mesopotamia, through Minoan culture, Greece and Rome, to medieval cities and nineteenth-century metropolises, people for centuries have been trying to solve a problem we prefer not to talk about aloud: What to do with sewage? With the development of civilization, pipes, channels, and ideas for “clean water for all” have changed. The breakthrough came with the development of biotechnology, which allowed to use the power of microorganisms in the service of clean water. Today, purification plants become bio-refineries – places where man has learned step by step to turn what is dirty and unwanted into a resource of the future.
We invite you on the 27th of January at 17:00 to the lecture "Waste-water through the centuries: From ancient civilizations to bio-refineries of the future", which will be presented by Dr Eng. Grzegorz Cema, researcher of the Department of Environmental Biotechnology of the Faculty of Energy and Environmental Engineering. The meeting will be held at the Municipal Public Library in Gliwice at 17, Kosciuszki Street.
Entrance is free of charge.
Lecture will take place is part of the project „Support for the process of Just Transition through the Promotion of Higher Education ” implemented under the European Funds for the World 2021-2027. Silesian University of Technology is a partner of the project.
