Special Mention for the representative of the Silesian University of Technology Faculty of Mining, Safety Engineering and Industrial Automation in the National Competition of Young Masters
Special mention for the representative of the Silesian University of Technology in the National Competition of Young Masters. On December the 2nd, 2025, the Ministry of Digital Affairs held a ceremony of presentation and awards of the National Inter-University Competition of Young Masters, organized as part of the XXXI ICT Forum. Eng. Kamil Kozerski from the Silesian University of Technology received an Extraordinary Distinction in the category “Best work in the field of information systems engineering.”
The title of the awarded work is “Development of a server environment based on virtualization and secure LAN, security analysis along with penetration tests.” The scientific supervision over the work was performed by Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Manowska, Prof. of Silesian University of Technology
The aim of the study was to design and implement a server environment based on bare metal virtualization using the Proxmox VE platform and to secure the local LAN computer network. The project included analysis and selection of technologies for virtualization, data storage, network segmentation, authentication, and threat detection. Security mechanisms based on, among others, VLAN, VPN, SIEM and XDR (Wazuh) systems were implemented, and penetration tests were performed using specialized tools such as Kali Linux and Metasploit. Also included are wireless WLAN security issues, based on WPA2 standards with strong AES-256 encryption. The work includes risk analysis, configuration of server services (HTTP, FTP, SSH), implementation of backup systems and snapshots, as well as security assessment of PostgreSQL databases.
The award was granted by the competition jury and the category partner – Asseco Poland S.A. The event brought together representatives of public administration, government institutions, scientific community, and experts from the IT sector.
