High Position of the Silesian University of Technology in the EngiRank 2025 Ranking
The results of the prestigious European Ranking of Engineering Programmes – EngiRank 2025 have been announced. The Silesian University of Technology has once again been ranked among the highest-rated technical universities in Poland and Europe, achieving excellent results both in the overall ranking and across all assessed engineering disciplines.
It is particularly noteworthy that this year’s edition of the ranking is significantly more competitive than the previous one. While the 2024 edition included 228 European institutions, the 2025 ranking features as many as 300 universities from across Europe. Despite this substantial expansion, the Silesian University of Technology maintained a very high position, placing 67th, confirming the University’s stable presence among the top one hundred European leaders in engineering education.
At the national level, the SUT ranked 2nd, ex aequo with Gdańsk University of Technology. In the subject-based classification, it achieved:
- once again 1st place in Civil Engineering (51st in Europe),
- 1st place in Environmental Engineering – up from 2nd place in 2024 (58th in Europe, a rise from 67th in 2024),
- 2nd place in Medical Engineering (up from 5th place in 2024) ex aequo with Gdańsk University of Technology, Warsaw University of Technology and Wrocław University of Science and Technology (73rd in Europe),
- 3rd place in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Information Engineering (77th in Europe),
- 4th place in Materials Engineering ex aequo with Gdańsk University of Technology (125th in Europe),
- 4th place in Mechanical Engineering (101st in Europe, an improvement of 6 positions compared to 2024),
- 5th place in Chemical Engineering (92nd in Europe, up from 101st in 2024).
During the official results ceremony held in Brussels, the Silesian University of Technology is represented by the Rector, Professor Marek Pawełczyk, who will receive the official certificate confirming the University’s strong performance in this year’s EngiRank edition. The ceremony is accompanied by a meeting of rectors of European technical universities and a seminar dedicated to defence and dual-use technologies – areas of growing strategic importance for both science and industry.
EngiRank is the first and only European ranking based on indicators crucial for engineering education. The assessment covers, among others, publications and citations, participation in the Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe programmes, actions supporting sustainable development, cooperation with industry, joint research projects, patents and engineering accreditations (ENAEE, ABET). The ranking includes universities from the 27 EU Member States as well as Switzerland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Ukraine, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is organised by the Perspektywy Educational Foundation, with Elsevier as the main international partner.
