Joint appeal of His Magnificence Rector of the Silesian University of Technology and the President of Gliwice to the Minister of Infrastructure
His Magnificence Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Marek Pawełczyk, and the President of Gliwice Katarzyna Kuczyńska-Budka jointly appealed to Dariusz Klimczak, the Minister of Infrastructure, to withdraw the proposed changes in the draft regulation on bans and restrictions of flights over cities. The University and city authorities fear that the introduction of new regulations will drastically reduce the functioning of the Gliwice airport, which plays an important educational, training, and economic role.
The draft regulation envisages the creation of special R-zones, i.e. special areas of flight restrictions, with specific altitude limits, strongly limiting or preventing the conduct of, for example, training flights, as well as the need to individually obtain permits for all flights that would be issued by the city’s president. The list of cities covered by the new regulations includes, among others, Gliwice.
Fearing that the possibility of conducting trainings (including military ones) at the airport in Gliwice, the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology and the President of Gliwice presented to the Ministry of Infrastructure a common position on the proposed changes.
