Dr Eng. Aleksandra Badura is the winner of the Sword Health Horizon Award 2025

On November 15th, during Sword AI Summit in Porto, Dr Eng. Aleksandra Badura received the prestigious Horizon Award 2025, awarded by the Sword Foundation, part of Sword Health. The award recognizes the most innovative research on pain, with particular emphasis on non-surgical and non-pharmacological methods of treatment. The article co-authored by our researcher won among almost 1000 papers published in 2024

The research was recognized for pioneering use of wearable sensors in pain research, creating one of the first open, clinically justified databases, and laying the foundation for personalized health care based on artificial intelligence. The database and the article are the result of the project “Multimodal pain monitoring platform in physiotherapy (PainMonit)”, implemented in 2019–2022 by the Department of Medical Informatics and Artificial Intelligence of the Silesian University of Technology in cooperation with Universität zu Lübeck (Germany), APA sp. z o.o. and the Institute of Experimental Psychology (Germany).

Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Ewa Piętka was the project manager, and the contractor on behalf of the Department of Medical Informatics and Artificial Intelligence was also Dr Eng. Maria Bieńskowska. Data related to physiotherapy procedures were collected in cooperation with Prof. Dr Hab. Andrzej Myśliwiec from the Jerzy Kukuczka Academy of Physical Education in Katowice and his team.

Out of 966 publications from 2024, 27 works were qualified for the final, and the article co-authored by Dr Eng. Aleksandra Badura won in Scientific Data:
