The Faculty of Organization and Management celebrates its 30th anniversary
The Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. On this occasion, on the 17th of November 2025, a jubilee ceremony was organized at the House of Music and Dance in Zabrze. There was a time for thanks and memories. The “Management Leader” statuettes were also presented.
It was a very brave and very good decision of the then authorities of the university and local government – this is what the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng Marek Pawełczyk, said about the creation of the Faculty of Organization and Management 30 years ago during the jubilee ceremony. . - From this place I thank the authorities of Zabrze, the then and the current president, that they created conditions for the education of students in this city and continue to maintain good relations with the Silesian University of Technology - he added.
For 30 years, the Faculty of Organization and Management has established its position as a scientific centre valued both in the region and in the country, and at the same time a good place to study.
- The aim of the faculty is the innovative education of highly qualified personnel for business and administration. We educate students in fields such as cognitive technologies and social media, management, logistics, project management, applied linguistics, business analytics or management and production engineering. Thanks to research and publications of scientists and cooperation with foreign universities, the faculty is also becoming more and more recognizable on a global scale – said the Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Management Dr Hab. Aleksandra Kuzior, Prof. SUT.
Welcoming the guests of the jubilee, she thanked her predecessors. - I thank you very much and wish to bow down low to all my distinguished predecessors who built the greatness of this faculty, and I have the pleasure of developing this greatness.
There were many words of thanks during this celebration. The moment when almost all the deans who had managed the Zabrze Faculty so far stood on one stage, will also be remembered for a long time. They were invited to the stage by representatives of the Association of Alumni of the Faculty of Organization and Management of the Silesian University of Technology.
On their behalf, thanks were given by Dr Hab. Eng. Katarzyna Dohn, Prof. SUT, currently a faculty member and Jarosław Zagórowski, a graduate who is currently the director of the Central Mining Institute.
- We offer you symbolic wishes, but these are wishes for the entire academic staff, teaching staff, as well as for all those who worked in the service departments and those with whom we dealt in classes, lectures, or even in our everyday matters when we came to the dean's office. Honourable Deans - thank you for this department, - he said.
Let us recall that the first dean of the faculty in the years 1995-2002 was Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Józef Bendkowski, later in the years 2002-2008 Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Andrzej Karbownik, in the years 2008-2016 Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marian Turek, in the years 2016-2019 Dr Hab. Eng. Krzysztof Wodarski Prof SUT. In the years 2020-2024 Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Jan Kaźmierczak, and since 2004 this function has been performed by Dr Hab Aleksandra Kuzior, Prof. SUT.
The history of the Faculty actually began on the 1st of October 1970, when the activities of the Faculty of Organization of Production of the Silesian University of Technology began. In 1992, the Institute of Organization and Enterprise Management was established by merging the Department of Management (formed from the Department of Organization of Production) and the Centre for Social Sciences. The Institute was located in Katowice and Gliwice, functioned in the structure of the Faculty of Materials Engineering, had little autonomy, and its strategic goal was to create the Faculty of Organization and Management. Finally, on 01.06.1995, by order of the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, the Institute of Organization and Enterprise Management was transformed into the Faculty of Organization and Management. Since 1.10.1998, the new headquarters of the Faculty is located in Zabrze at 26, Roosevelta Street.
President of Zabrze, Kamil Żbikowski, stressed that it is a pride that the Silesian University of Technology operates also in this city.
- Thanks to your presence and innovation, the city of Zabrze can develop. It is also a benefit for the local labour market – said the President of Zabrze. I wish that these 30 years of the Faculty of Organization and Management will be only a prelude to further successes and development – he added.
Wishes also flowed from outstanding personalities connected with the Faculty. In the letters of congratulations, the Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Prof., Marek Gzik and former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland and President of the European Parliament Prof Jerzy Buzek sent their wishes for further development.
- I had the honour to visit the faculty several times and to observe closely your passion, professionalism, and openness of science. These values are the foundations of success and inspiration for the next generation of students. I would also like to thank you for your cooperation and co-organizing a scientific project for young scientists under the slogan of sustainable development, which supports beginning scientists in their first steps.
On the occasion of the jubilee, the Faculty authorities also established the " Management Leader" award for authorities of scientific, social, and economic life. The title was awarded in five categories. In the category “Science” the Award went to the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk, in the “Public Administration” category, three equal awards were granted to Kamil Żbikowski, President of Zabrze, Dr. Małgorzata Mańki-Szulik, President of Zabrze in the years 2006-2024 and Elżbieta Korecka, Director of the District Labour Office in Zabrze. Jarosław Zagórowski, director of the Central Mining Institute - National Research Institute, was appreciated in the “Research Institutes” category. The Management Leader in the “Economy” category is Dr Marek Staszek, President of DB Cargo Polska S.A. and Jerzy Kulawik, Vice President of DOM100.EU. In the category of “Economic Self-Governments” Tadeusz Donocik, founder and honorary president of the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Katowice was awarded.
- The title of “Management Leader” established in the year of the 30th anniversary of the Faculty emphasizes the skills, effectiveness, and personal authority of the distinguished. It appreciates outstanding personalities who constantly improve the process of planning, organizing, and determining the directions of development of their organizations, effectively achieve their goals. A leader is a person who inspires, motivates, and shows how to succeed. Regardless of the field of professional, scientific or life activity, they are always people endowed with charisma and respected - emphasized Professor Aleksandra Kuzior.
The celebrations of the jubilee, accompanied by a dedicated scientific conference entitled “Theory and Practice of Organization Management – Strategies of the future” were held under the honorary patronage of the Minister of Science and Higher Education, the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, the Mayor of Zabrze, His Magnificence Rector of the Silesian University of Technology. The honorary patronage over the jubilee was also taken by the Katowice Special Economic Zone and the Committee of Organization and Management Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences.
The Jubilee was attended by members of the Committee of Organization and Management of the Polish Academy of Sciences. A Committee meeting was also organized.
After the official part for almost one and a half thousand people - employees, students, doctoral students, graduates, and guests of the event - guests listened to the concert of the music group “Feel.” A ball was also held during the jubilee.
