The renovated entrance area of the Faculty of Architecture is put into use
On November 13th, the ceremonial commissioning of the renovated entrance zone of the building of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology at 7, Akademicka Street in Gliwice took place.
The grand opening ceremony (ribbon-cutting) was attended by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology, Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk and the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Dr Hab. Eng. Arch. Tomasz Bradecki, Prof. SUT.
- The Faculty of Architecture invests heavily in its development, in staff, in acquiring new projects, which is why the renewal of the environment in which one works is conducive to this mobilization. It was enough to develop certain concepts and now we can see their effects, which are certainly appreciated by the Faculty staff and students, judging from their attendance this event. I am also glad that I was able to support the Faculty in these activities – said the Rector Marek Pawełczyk.
The Dean Tomasz Bradecki emphasized that the entrance zone is not only a place of meetings, inspiration, and cooperation, but also a new exhibition space.
- This is the most explored space we have – in fact, every month a new exhibition appears, numerous events take place here. We are very happy that after thirty years we managed to renovate it – explained the Dean Tomasz Bradecki.
The event was accompanied by the opening of an exhibition of works of post-graduate students. The studies were conducted at the Faculty of Architecture in the fields of interior design and graphic design. There were also works summarizing the NB agreement on the concept of development of the buildings of the KWK Sośnica mine. Awards were also presented to the winners of the student competition for the programming and spatial concept of the adaptation of the building of the KWK Sośnica Cechownia to centrist-creative functions.
The participants also had the opportunity to get acquainted with the presentations of student science clubs operating at the Faculty of Architecture.
- Although we deal with the history of architecture, we are not a boring club - we not only sit and read books, but we plan and study the history of architecture in practice and in real life - said Wojciech Kramza, president of the Rokoko Student Science Club, who presented at his stand a Gothic arch with a tracery and a front stall. - We visit historical buildings to experience their history: to see it, draw it and explore it, which gives much greater possibilities and a much better perception of this architecture than reading ordinary books. We are visiting various cities and towns in Europe; in December we are planning to go to Brno.
