Rector Marek Pawełczyk at the summary of LOT Summer Internship 2025

On the 18th of September, at the Head Office of LOT Polish Airlines in Warsaw, the summary of LOT Summer Internship 2025 program took place. The event was attended by the Rector of the Silesian University of Technology Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Marek Pawełczyk and the Head of the Academic Aviation Training Centre of the Silesian University of Technology -  Dr Hab. Eng. Pil. Jarosław Kozuba, Prof. SUT.

The summary of LOT Summer Internship 2025 was organized at the seat of PLL LOT with extraordinary momentum and setting. It is a prestigious and flagship internship program of this company, addressed to students and graduates of universities. In the years 2022-2024, immediately after the internship, as many as 75% of people found employment in LOT Polish Airlines. The program is perceived as a forge of future personnel for the Polish aviation and, more broadly, the transport sector.

The ceremony was attended by, among others, members of the Management Board and Supervisory Board of LOT, representatives of the world of science, including the Rector Marek Pawełczyk, Prof. Jarosław Kozuba and invited guests from public administration.

- It’s always good to be among the best, and here I’m among the best of the best. I congratulate the presidents and supervisory board of LOT Polish Airlines on its model management. It is extraordinary that former trainees, who currently hold managerial positions, talk about their work with such great passion and onboard new people – said Rector Marek Pawełczyk. - It is amazing that people at such a young age have a real impact on what is happening in such a huge institution. LOT is such an institution. It is our national value. That is why I am glad that the Silesian University of Technology has been invited to join the family of LOT Polish Airlines partners. We have a lot to offer. We are one of the largest aviation training centres in Poland, we have many aircraft and great infrastructure, and the airport in Gliwice is only a few kilometres from the University. We educate pilots, mechanics, navigators, air traffic controllers, but we also educate in these specialties, which were discussed by interns dealing with data processing.

This year’s edition of LOT Summer Internship was very popular. There were as many as 4200 applications. Almost 450 people were invited to the recruitment process, of which 40 trainees were selected, who had the opportunity to have a real impact on the development of the company in 14 areas of activity (including Revenue Management, IT, and marketing). The internship started on July 1 and will last until September 30.

- I can proudly say that this is one of the larger internship programs highly anticipated by students. They receive a great deal of knowledge. They see what the industry looks like from the inside out. During the internship, they do real work and contribute to the development of the company. I think that this distinguishes our program from internships in other organizations - explains Dorota Dmuchowska, Member of the Management Board for Operations at PLL LOT S.A. - We attract great people - young, with enthusiasm. There is something magical about aviation, so after the internship it is difficult to part with us and many of them start working here - successfully. We offer them professional development – from trainee position to all possible career levels. Many of the internship supervisors, including those in directorships, are our trainees from six, eight or nine years ago.

Let us remind you that last year the Silesian University of Technology signed a cooperation agreement with LOT Polish Airlines.

- We tried to show during the event how much the whole organization is committed to cooperation with the academic community. The invitation of the Rector Marek Pawełczyk is also a manifestation of our commitment to good cooperation. Our internships are almost iconic in the student environment. There are more than 100 people applying for one place. Candidates come from prestigious universities in our country. Therefore, I hope that today’s meeting will also translate into interest in our internships among students of the Silesian University of Technology - said the President of the Management Board of PLL LOT S.A. Michał Fijoł, who is also a member of the Social Council of the Silesian University of Technology.

The next edition of LOT Summer Internship will start next year. Already now we encourage students and graduates of the Silesian University of Technology to participate.

- Given the range of common topics, I think that the Silesian University of Technology will be one of the main academic partners of LOT Polish Airlines. We plan joint ventures, including those in the form of internship and training programs. This is an additional attraction for our candidates for studies, as well as motivation for current students to become an employee of LOT or take advantage of the opportunity for improvement. Aviation is firmly rooted in our university. We always look at the pilot’s uniform with appreciation – and we can also boast that the pilot’s uniform is present at the Silesian University of Technology – concluded Rector Marek Pawełczyk.
