Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk conferred Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Life Sciences in Lublin
Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk, Rector of the Silesian University of Technology from 2016 to 2024 has been conferred the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. This is the third prestigious distinction conferred to Professor Mężyk, who is also a Doctor Honoris Causa of the Gh. Asachi Technical University in Iași, Romania, and the Lviv Polytechnic.
The ceremonial conferment took place on 16 September at the Congress Centre of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. The laudation was delivered by Prof. Dariusz Andrejko, Dean of the Faculty of Production Engineering.
Prof. Mężyk’s academic career has been closely associated with the Silesian University of Technology, where he graduated in Mechanical Engineering. He earned both his doctoral degree and habilitation with distinction. In 2004, he was appointed associate professor, and in 2007 he became a professor in the field of technical sciences. He served as Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, and from 2016, held the position of Rector of the University for two terms.
Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk is a specialist in mechanical dynamics, numerical modelling, mechatronics, and the design of military vehicles. His research achievements includes over 250 publications, 6 monographs, 28 patents, and 2 industrial designs. He has participated in 50 research projects, in the role of project leader in 18 of them. Prof. Mężyk has also made significant contributions to the training and mentoring of academic staff, supervising 13 doctoral candidates and reviewing numerous doctoral, habilitation, and professorial proceedings.
His research projects have long been effectively integrated with industrial cooperation. He collaborates with research centres in Belgium, China, France, the Netherlands, Germany, Portugal, Romania, and Ukraine. He has held numerous positions in scientific organisations and societies, including the Polish Society for Computational Mechanics, Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (PTMTS), and the Gliwice Branch of PTMTS. In 2008, he was appointed by the Ministry of State Treasury to the Scientific Council of the Research and Development Center for Mechanical Equipment (OBRUM) in Gliwice.
Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk is or has been a member of the Scientific Councils of the Institute of Polymer and Carbon Materials in Zabrze, the Industrial Institute of Automation and Measurements in Warsaw, the KOMAG Institute of Mining Technology in Gliwice, and the Military Technical Institute of Armament in Zielonka, as well as a member of the Board of the Military University of Technology in Warsaw. From 2020 to 2023, he chaired the Committee of Machine Design of the Polish Academy of Sciences and currently serves as a member of its presidium.
Between 2020 and 2024, Prof. Mężyk served as Chair of The Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland (CRASP), representing the positions of Polish university authorities in interactions with, among others, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Upon completing his term, he was named Honorary Chair of the organisation. The title of Doctor Honoris Causa was conferred during a meeting of the CRASP presidium at the University of Life Sciences in Lublin.
