Summer School for Doctoral Students

In the Centre for Modern Education another training was held within the Summer School for PhD students entitled “How to conduct didactic classes in order to achieve the assumed educational effects, but not to bore students.”

This time, the participants had the opportunity to explore the subject of creative didactics and conducting classes in activating way – they got acquainted with the principles of effective didactics and the basics of motivating students to actively participate in academic classes based on the use of engaging methodological approaches.

The training entitled “How to conduct didactic classes in order to achieve the assumed educational effects, but not to bore students” was conducted by Dr Eng. Rafał Setlak, Vice-Dean for Student Affairs and Education at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

During the meeting participants:

  • got acquainted with the key assumptions of activating didactics;
  • analysed practical examples of implementation of particular methods of education;
  • discussed the possibilities and barriers of using specific methods in working with students;
  • were given tips on how to conduct classes in a creative and cognitive way.

The training took the form of an interactive workshop, and its aim was to improve the methodological competence of doctoral students in the field of teaching techniques and methods used in the teaching of higher education.

Participation in the event was a valuable opportunity to get acquainted with the rich catalogue of activating teaching methods and the advantages of their use in teaching work with students.

The training is carried out as part of the project “Silesian University of Technology as a university supporting staff on the way to excellence” implemented within the framework of Measure 01.05 Skills in Higher Education in Priority 1 of the European Funds for Social Development Program 2021-2027, based on the agreement no. FERS.01.05-IP.08-0159/23-00 under the supervision of the National Centre for Research and Development as an Intermediate Body.
