Graduates of the Silesian University of Technology with awards
The six best diploma theses on the protection of cultural heritage were awarded by the jury of the international Competition of the Polish National Committee of ICOMOS named after Professor Jan Zachwatowicz. Among the winners were three graduates of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology: MSc. Eng. Arch. Patrycja Czubaj, MSc. Eng. Arch. Julia Wild and MSc. Eng. Arch. Natalia Suchy.
Award named after Professor Jan Zachwatowicz Award was established in 2000 by the Polish National Committee of ICOMOS, the General Historic Preservation Officer of the Republic of Poland and the Professor's daughters: Katarzyna Zachwatowicz-Jasieńska, Krystyna Zachwatowicz-Wajda and Andrzej Wajda on the centenary of the birth of Jan Zachwatowicz. The competition is open to students of higher schools of architecture, art and conservation whose theses address the issue of cultural heritage protection. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage supports the Competition financially and organizationally by delegating its representative to the Award Jury.
The jury awarded two equal prizes of 10,000 PLN. They were received by:
- MSc. Eng. Arch. Patrycja Czubaj, graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, for her thesis "Architectural and conservation study of the Silesian Park".
- MSc. Eng. Arch. Małgorzata Spierzak, graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology, for her work “House at the interface of local influences. Research on the possibilities of using wood and stone as building materials used in traditional construction of the Suwałki Region, in the implementation of typical solutions, on the examples of summer house designs in the villages of Tobołowo and Żywa Woda;”

Prizes worth PLN 2,500 were awarded to:
- MSc. Eng. Arch. Julia Wild, graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, for her work "Krainy Kresów. A project that shows that we should pay much more attention to the invisible";
- MSc. Eng. Arch. Natalia Suchy, graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology, for her work “A Short History of Disappearance. Revitalization of post-mining areas in Szczygłowice;”
- Magdalena Szmagier, MA, graduate of the Faculty of Conservation and Restoration of Works of Art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, for her thesis “Laboratory analysis of samples taken from a bas-relief depicting a bird from the ceramic decoration of the swimming pool wall at ul. Spartańska in Warsaw";
- MSc. Eng. Arch. Anna Wancel, graduate of the Faculty of Architecture of the Wrocław University of Science and Technology, for her work “Stodoły 2.0. Reinterpretation of the historic urban layouts of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland on the example of the barn district in Żarki".
The awards were presented to the winners by Bożena Żelazowska, Secretary of State in the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, General Historic Preservation Officer.
The ceremony took place at the Palace on the Water in the Royal Łazienki Park during the scientific conference "Stakeholders in the management of the most valuable heritage - UNESCO World Heritage Sites, European Heritage, Historic Monuments" devoted to the protection of cultural heritage.
