The 13th edition of the Knowledge Competition for Law and Administration students
For the thirteenth time, the President of the Personal Data Protection Office invites students of the third-fifth year of uniform studies in the fields of law, computer science, management and I-III year of second-cycle studies in the fields of administration, computer science and management to participate in the essay competition entitled “Access of university to data on students’ private electronic devices”.
The organizers of the competition are UODO (Personal Data Protection Office) and the National Chamber of Legal Advisers. The substantive partner of the competition is the legal office of Kobylańska Lewoszewski Mednis. The task of the participants is to prepare a solution to the case in the form of an essay. The works can be sent until the 30th of May 2025.
The results will be announced by the 12th of June 2025 on the UODO website.
Prizes are provided for the winners of the competition. In addition, special prizes have been awarded to the winners – participation in a 2-week training program at the Personal Data Protection Office.
The competition aims to promote knowledge about personal data protection and enables students to test their knowledge in formulating practical solutions in the face of real legal problems. This year, students will face issues related to protecting the privacy of students if they use private electronic devices while taking exams at the university. In this case, the university reserves the right to check all files and browsing history stored on such devices in order to verify whether the student has independently completed the examination task.
This year, participants will be asked to assess whether the university can propose such a way of organizing exams and what actions it would have to take to access data contained on students’ private devices in accordance with the provisions on personal data protection.
