Silesian University of Technology - a university with a new dimension of accessibility
As part of the FERS program “Silesian University of Technology – a university with a new dimension of accessibility,” Silesian University of Technology purchased a comforter with an electric lift for people with disabilities. The comforter and electric lift were placed in the Accessibility Laboratory, in an adapted toilet for people with disabilities at 2A, Akademicka Street – opposite the Office for People with Disabilities.
What is a Comforter?
A Comforter (Komfortka) is a specialized room equipped with appropriate equipment, including changing table / bed with increased load capacity, adapted to the needs of adults. It allows for:
- comfortable change of diapers or other hygiene measures,
- comfortable and safe movement from the wheelchair to the couch,
- use the toilet in a way that is adapted to the user’s needs.
This solution significantly increases the independence and sense of dignity of people with disabilities.
The electric lift is used for easy, safe, and effortless transfer of a person from/to comforter, to a wheelchair and toilet.
Comforter and electric lift are designed for students, PhD students and employees of the Silesian University of Technology. There is also the possibility of using the comforter by people from the outside (the comforter is located near the adapted entrance to the building, at Krakow Square, used by the inhabitants of Gliwice).
The Silesian University of Technology is implementing the FERS project “Silesian University of Technology - a university with a new dimension of accessibility,” which aims to strengthen the accessibility of universities so that people with special needs, including people with disabilities, can be guaranteed space for education and work.
The purchase was co-financed by the European Union.
