Dąbrowiacy and Friends welcomed the spring!

Behind us is a spring concert called “Dąbrowiacy and Friends.” The Academic Dance Ensemble of the Silesian University of Technology “Dąbrowiacy” invited members of the Patria Culture and Folk Association and Chorzów Song and Dance Ensemble to perform together.

Last Saturday, the spring concert “Dąbrowiacy and Friends” took place on the stage in “Mrowisko” Student Culture Centre. The Polytechnic Ensemble invited musicians and dancers from other Ensembles to the stage. The performers presented a varied repertoire. The spectators could see both vocal and dance suites from the area of Pszczyna, Rzeszów, Lublin and Łowicz, as well as national dances: Polonaise and Mazur

The Song and Dance Ensemble “Chorzów” was represented by the youth band “Natalie,” which prepared a bunch of songs from different regions of the country. There could be no shortage of Marzanna- related rituals, which have survived exceptionally well in Silesia and are still a form of fun for children and young people.

- After a short arrangement of ritual songs, the dancers symbolically brought out the puppets of Marzanka and Marzanok to mark the end of winter. The diversity of regions, dances and rituals gave the concert a unique character – reports Barbara Lisiecka from the “Dąbrowiacy” Ensemble.

Among the audience were also the authorities of the Silesian University of Technology. Prof. Marek Pawełczyk – Rector of the Silesian University of Technology expressed his joy that there is a place for artistic and cultural activities at the university focused on technical education. Thanks to this, students cultivate passions that are a great showcase not only for our academic community, but also for the region and the country.

Vice-Rector for Student Affairs and Education Prof. Dr Hab. Eng. Anna Chrobok also did not hide her admiration for the rich repertoire of bands and attention to the details in folk costumes. There were also congratulations for “Dąbrowiacy,” who qualified for the Contest Review of the XV Intercultural Folklore Festival “Zagłębie and Neighbors.”
